mycelium preservation
    #2068217 - 11/03/03 02:49 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

i have a question for all the smart people here,

my friend found a mushroom growing off of a woodchip and i was wondering if there was anyway to preserve the mycelium that is on the woodchip currently. unfortunately the mushroom is getting pretty dry so we cannot spore print it. i am pretty much asking if theres any way he could sort of "plant" the mycelium covered woodchip, or the mycelium itself so it could develop and fruit some more so we can possibly identify it. thanks for taking the time to read this.

I read somewhere that to preserve fully colonized mycelium you can put it in a dark sealed container submerged in DI water at room temperature for years. Some one correct me if i'm wrong.

agar is probably your only (slim) hope if it's just a tiny bit. and quick!
