White Mushroom see if u can identify
    #2068083 - 11/03/03 01:34 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I found this Mushroom while hunting in the woods near my house its Pearl White with a shady tone to it almost heart shaped with very white gils, I found it growing in a stump near a small stream. It has a very mushroomy smell like those found at the grocery store. Couldn't get it bruise or a spore print. I live in North Texas any help would be nice.

i also think it could be an oyster mushroom, pleurotus cornucopiae, possibly. was it in a clump or on an elm tree? if it is an oyster mushroom there good to eat, not active though!! but make sure you get a 100% identification before eating (you really need a spore print)

If the ID turns out to be an Oyster, they are good edibles.

I agree with Pleurotus. Species is tougher, but all of them are edible.

A spore print should be easy to get - Pleurotus are heavy spore producers. If you're having trouble, try putting a bowl over the mushroom to keep the humidity up. I should come out white to pale lilac in color.

Happy mushrooming!

looks alot like some Cantharellus subalbidus I found one time, only ever found them once. the shallow vein-like appearance of the gills which fork and run down the stipe is my reasoning. but then, they also look flat in spots
