People do shrooms for a variety of reasons, some do it just to get 'fucked up' others take it a lot more seriously - doing it for spiritual ends.

I chose the enlightenment category, but I also trip for Psycological/Inner Exploration. Honestly however, I don't see a big distinction between these two categories.

I saw a program on T.V. about 2 kids who bought some shrooms used them and became very happy.
It made me remember those things we're around. Someone offered to do
them in the past, but then i declined. Due to lack of knowledge of what it does.
After that T.V. program my search for knowledge about these "shrooms" began.. I read the "The Psychedelic Experience FAQ" and a LOT of trip reports.. Asked around at my job at people who did them before.
Then weeks later i bought a pack at the local shop, dried mushrooms.
And i had the best first trip ON MY OWN that i could have had..

Other - it's a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons I like to ingest shrooms is because it adds a whole new dimension to music. The places I've ridden to with music/shrooms is just amazing. Other reasons include wanting to experience a different world every so often, the visuals are really beautiful, the feeling of bliss and clenched teeth you get during the peak.
I don't really trip for any enlightenment. After a good trip, I feel refreshed and quite content. If I discover anything new about myself or life, or a new perspective on things, then that's good, but that's not the main focus of my trips. The main focus is the beauty of everything - of nature, of life, of music.

That's true,but on heavier trips the distinction between the individual and the outer universe often dissolves.
I first got into tripping out of sheer curiosity and teenage bravado,but after my first trip it's been mainly for enlightenment/psychological reasons.I also like the social conection,but that's just the icing on the cake for me.Visuals are cool too,but they are probably the least important factor.

More then one reason that's for sure. I for one like visuals. Very entertaining, but I rarely get much of the visual aspect of the mushroom trip. I've never done them by myself, so I suppose I could also say I like doing them with friends. It's nice to be able to communicate with someone so well with such little effort. I also like feeling so connected to nature. And lastly I like how it takes my brain and turns it from off to on. =D

Mostly, I just do them for fun. The first shroom trip I had, a bunch of us sat around watching Adult Swim, on a sunday night. Back when it was Futurama, and Family Guy, as well as ATHF and Sealab 2021 and all that jazz. And it was some awfully bizzarre episodes of all of 'em. 4 of us sat around laughing so hard we were in pain, for an hour and a half.. was great. And really that's what I dig best.
I don't get visuals. Only once, off some real top-shelf acid.
It's usually far too stressful and confusing of an experience to gain any enlightenment or very much inner soul-searching.

I disagree too. Enlightenment is a chemical reaction inside the brain. your body reduces seritontin at certain parts of the brain. The lack of seritontin produces a "one with the earth feeling" or "enlightenment". Prayer and mediation can do the same effects as a psychadelic and vicea versa. I believe mescaline reduces seritontin levels too. heh sorry had to plug it. I learned all this from discovery channel BTW. 
I use shrooms for visuals and inner exploration. I look to fix one thing about myself that I may not like personally. It works, for me.
