Let's take a look at your procedure.

Do you use a pressure cooker?
Do you use a SAB?
When you inoculate are you using flame sterilization?
Are you flame sterilizing between every jar?
Did you use the same syringe for every jar?

1. No, I steam sterilize.

2. What is an SAB?

3. I didn't my last batch, just wiped the needle down with an alcohol wipe.

4. I did not wipe between different inoculations.

5. Yes.

Ok, you have a few issues going on.

An SAB is a still air box. We use this when inoculating our jars and bags. Keeps the air still so nothing floats around while doing the inoculations. Look for a still air box tek. there are hundreds of them floating around (use the search function)

This is what mine looks like.

Alcohol is good but there are certain kinds of bacteria etc. that does not kill. We flame sterilize the needle before every jar/bag. You want that sucker red hot. And when you go to inoculate the first few drops will cool the needle.

It appears you need to work on your inoculation procedure.

Keep in mind, alcohol is flammable, so becareful when using alcohol near a flame.

Also, what is your steam sterilization procedure???

Watch this vid to get a better understanding.

So I just finished making an SAB- it has rough curvatures but it should be fine.

So my next batch I will DEFINITELY heat the needle. None of this alcohol wipe down bullshit.

I steam sterilize 5 jars at a time in a large pot, embedded with layers of rocks and tin foil. They sit in the pot at a medium boil for 90 minutes at the least. Afterwards (since I can't bring the pot upstairs) I sterilize a smaller container just fitting for the 5 jars. I proceed to bring them to my inoculation area which is sterilized with disinfectant wipes, alcohol squares, and Germ-X for my hands and latex gloves.

I wait for the jars to cool for 24 hours.

After, I inoculate the sides of the jars and wait. Mainly to see more mold lol.

if every single jar grew the same mold right where you inoculated I'd think you're dealing with a dirty syringe.

seeing as you only alco-wiped and didn't flame the needle that could be the reason you're seeing the nasty stuff on your inoc site.

A SAB is a must for pretty much everything in this hobby except spawning!

That makes perfect sense. I am dealing with two contaminants I believe though. One is kind of a greenish-tanish color which is drying out my substrate. The other is the common black mold. Any theories?
