religion....
    #2066766 - 11/03/03 02:11 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I have been raised as a christian all my life...but now..im starting to think...ideas that are contradicting my beliefs..
I mean..look at religion today..new religions form every day...chirstianity, theres so many branches and new ones form more and more..a person says...no i dont agree with that and i think we should do this...i think thsi is because spirituality (religion) is indivdual..
We should beleive what we beleive..not what a group of people tells us to beleive...religion is what u make of it..its what u truly want to beleive

Congratulations on coming to this point, this realization. I think that the realization that we all have our own spiritual paths and that organized religion isn't the be all and end all of it is such an important transitionary phase. Good luck on your path! Whatever you chose it to be.

Haha, yeah no kidding. In my own experience it's not exactly easy to realize you're on your own path, that you can't defer decisions to other people. Following one's own heart is vastly more satisfying than following external dictates, but when you're at the transitionary point, it can be as intimidating and scary as it is thrilling and freeing.

i too congratulate you! *stands and claps hands*

anyway, i also know where your coming from when you say you dont know if you like it or not.i was also raised a christian, and once i started questioning my beliefs, i was scared as hell. i mean, after you have been raised a certain way, and lived your whole life up to this point believing these beliefs, it is really hard to let them go. i felt kinda empty after my first experience with shrooms, because during which i came to realize some things that threw many of my beliefs out the window....

but the fact is, just cause you were taught something doesnt make it right.

i still hold on to many of my christian beliefs. just cause you think a little different now, doesnt mean that it all has to be trashed, only to start over. the christian belief has a very good basic structure of morals and ethics (such as, dont kill people, dont steal from people, be nice to people, dont lie, etc. etc.) which i like.

but the rest of it for me has changed...and it was hard to do so, but i feel like im on a more significant spiritual path now that i chose my beliefs, rather than learned them....

good luck

Its a very confusing stage when man begins to break out of the Matrix thats is his upbringing belief system. Once we realize that we really dont know anything that wasn't just "tought" to us, ones world begins to crumble. What is sad is that many people raised in Christianity many times are ignored the right to learn about any other religions and are NOT tought that Judaism, wich was Christianity's seed was actually constructed with ideas from earlier Estern religions. And the worst fact that they are blinded of is that the only reason they are Christian is because of where they were born.

I came to a similar point in my life this year. Not the first time, but I believe this was the last time. I will never go back to being a Christian. I wrote a post on why with a lot of detail, but it's 6:30 AM and I'll have to find it later.

I'm actually elated to be free of my beliefs. When I returned to religion in the past, it was always with a heavy heart that I turned back away from being a free spirit with no ties to prayer or responsibility to a set of beliefs and expected behaviors. Now finally I realize the folly in sticking to such an old way of thinking. One that has been manipulated by corrupt churches and government who knows how many times along the way to its present day state. It's called being agnostic, and my mind is truly free, for the 1st time in my life, to think and wonder and think about the nature of anything.
