Weird IE pop-ups
    #2066337 - 11/02/03 11:14 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

A few days ago I started getting pop-ups whenever I go to certain pages. Like if I'm going to http://njscf.proboards2.com/index.cgi?board=amate , IE (I think that's where the pop-up comes from) says: "Match found: mate" because it found the word mate in the address. I didn't touch any IE settings, and I don't know what started it. Is it some sort of virus? Or did I fuck up a setting somehow? I'm running XP Home and IE 6.0.2800.1106

That's the only website I can think of now, but I've gotten it on many more pages. Whenever it happens again I'll try to update this post and add them.

I just went to upload this picture I'm going to attach, and at the website: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/dopictureg.php?u=MMerletto I got a match found for Pi...

I'd run spybot first, then check out IE registry settings, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main maybe something shady under that key.

In addition I'd recomend switching away from IE to something like Mozilla, FireBird, or Opera.

Those programs that install themselves wont be able to. And you'll be using a standards compliant browser, yau for standards.

No comments on the ammount of still open holes cause i havnt checked the list latly, 30 IIRC the last thing i read, was a list of 38 was forced by MS to be removed because they fixed 8...

I downloaded Firebird and I like it alot more than IE already. I had Opera before and I didn't like it that much, just a lot of little things. Mozilla is the browser on all of the campus comuters, and I always liked it but I didn't think of getting it. Thanks for the recommendation.
