cactus problem
    #2065463 - 11/02/03 03:27 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

a few weeks ago i got my shipment of san pedros.

they were all about 10 inches tall and rooted. i planted them in a 50/50 mix of potting soil\sand. a week after i planted them, i watered them very lightly.

2 of them had previously had cuttings taken from their tops but there was an inch or so of new growth on each above the groove caused by the cutting.

one of those two has a problem. at the groove, there is an area that has started to look very unhealthy. at first it turned a sort of medium brown, waxy, apple-bruise translucent looking... now it's darker and it's starting to get deformed on the surface. the spot is about the size of a small thumbprint.

what is this? what should i do?

Is it soft on that spot?

I'd cut it off........It may not look pretty but it should be ok

I'd try and kill the infection with bright bright sunlight and foliar feeding before I cut it. Cutting cacti when it wasn't absolutely necessary or against my better judgement has created quite a few balls of mush in my camp.

foliar feeding? bright sunlight really isn't much of an option.

What do you mean, you cannot provide those conditions for your cactus?

i could do some foliar feeding if i knew what that meant.

bright sunlight isn't possible because of where i'm situated in the building i live in.... less than an hour of direct sunlight through the window, and it's in the early morning.

Best to basically never water your cactuses ever. Or like once every three months. If they don't get heat and direct light. They'll be okay. Just let em dry and never water them again. So to speak...
