InVitro pinning in casing salvageable?
    #2063859 - 11/01/03 09:43 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hi, as some of you may know, I know a novice grower...anyhow, he say's his first casing has pinned under the casing layer. He said he noticed because he has foil around the tray, and took it off, just to see what it looked like on the side(clear tray), you know, because he was just curious. He noticed about 3 pins per side. He wants to know if this is salvageable, or maybe even normal? Your intellect is appreciated.

is it 'caked' together? as in, can you take the whole casing out as one piece? If so, take it out and proceed to fruit it. Youd probably get alot more this way, with them growing on top and the sides.

It is caked together, though, not all mycelliated on top, it is definitely one piece. He says your idea is simple, yet brilliant! When thinking to hard, it's hard to keep it simple. ChopperDave, your thoughts are appreciated.

One more question, should it be elevated or direct? or either? Thanks

Its a good lesson for next time... Don't use clear casing trays! If you need to, use tape so that light can't get through the sides.

They pin there because the humidity is usually much higher between the substrate and the side of the tray.
