Safe in a dehydrator overnight?
    #20638399 - 09/29/14 11:52 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

I have some shrooms I picked and dried recently and I put them in a mason jar. I came back a day later and some of them were flimsy again so I immediately put them all back in the dehydrator. It's cool to leave them in there overnight right?

Yes....leave them there until they are cracker dry....I have to run mine for 24 hours straight sometimes.

I bet you have some of those laying around the house....they come in all sorts of new clothing and electronics packaging.

Toss one or 2 of them in with your dried mushrooms and they will absorb the extra moisture in the air.

Haha, I don't. I have some damprid but I want to try and avoid using that, that's why I upgraded to the dehydrator. Any natural items I could throw in there? Like cork lol

Why not just use the damprid? It's the same thing, it's a desiccant.

A cork will not do anything.

After the damprid gets moist I notice it gives off a slimy wet texture, and I don't have an unlimited supply for it. Is there really not a food demoisturizer that you can throw in with food to keep dry foods fresh? Besides silica gels?
Maybe rock salts or clay? Clay is built around houses to keep molds at bay

Desiccant doesn't work indefinitely without being 'recharged'. It needs to be baked in the oven. I do 285 degrees F for 3 hours to cook the moisture out of it. Make sure to use store it in an airtight container, as it will suck up moisture from the air rendering it inert.

The desiccant I use changes colors when it is spent, and after cooking it reverts back to the color that indicated it is active. This is how I know when to cook it to recharge it. You can get desiccant like this online pretty easily. The clear shit in those tiny packets, IME, are completely hit or miss and I'd rather not play that numbers game when it comes to drying/storing fruits I busted my ass to produce.

I'm keeping edible shrooms in a jar after dehydrator and they stay crisp-dry for years. No need for desiccant, just a hermetically sealed container.

Sure you can run it overnight. Get 'em good and dry that way. It won't hurt them as most dehydrators I've ever seen won't get hot enough to degrade the actives.

Yeah i woke up this morning to some bouncy dry shrooms. I have a cheap nebsco dehydrator from walmart, I know that when I initially dried them it was only for like 4 hours so overnight helped them out. Thanks guyssssss :mushroom2:

I have the same one, I run it 24/7 and add/remove shrooms in the morning, so most dehydrate for 24 hours no matter the size.

Wait, harvest, pull from Dehydrator and put in new fruits.  Rinse, repeat daily...
