Orange spots on rye jars

Hey, Long time reader, but first time poster. I usually use tyvek for my lids on my rye jars, but I this time i didn't have access to tyvek, and had to use polyfill as my filter. Tyvek has always worked 100% with no contamination, but I am noticing these orange specks in some of my colonized grain jars. To me it doesn't look like metabolites, because the color is a little different.
If anyone has any idea on what these spots might be, or if they are metabolites; your help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the strain you are growing?
Certain species of serratia bacteria grow a similar shade of orange. With the increased moisture it could be I guess. Doubt it though. It looks like metabolites to me. So the mycelium is probably fighting some form of bacteria. Although it could be stressed for another reason it's probably a bacteria, looks wet.

Thanks for the reply. I'm growing cubes. I spawned one quart to a little coir/verm to make sure I don't waste my time doing the rest of them. Also the spots haven't grown in size at all since they appeared.

Possibly. I've had luck with bacteria contaminated spawn in the past, though others haven't. It really depends on the severity of the contamination, the strength of the cubensis genetics, and maybe a little luck.
I'd give it a try, just know that you might be wasting some time and materials. At the worst, it's a failure but you get practice and you learn. At best, you get some fruits and get practice and you learn.

Ok, thanks. I just read your thread involving the contaminated lc, and it was very interesting. Originally I was going to do two monotubs, but do you think I should spawn all my jars to one monotub to increase the chances of getting fruit?

If it's only a couple of jars I would just case the infected ones and use the rest as spawn for your mono. That way you are not wasting the grain if it fruits or risking possible infection of your mono.

It is the majority of the jars have some little spot. I think i'm going to spawn all the contaminated jars (6) to coir using damions50/50 tek. I have plenty of coir and bins and the bucket tek takes very little effort so im mainly doing it just to experiment, and see what happens. I'm hoping since the jars are pretty much completely colonized with only a small amount bacteria that the mycelium will be able to overcome, and flush at least once.

I hope they do man Good luck! I think you will get something out of it. The myc is fighting the infection If you open up your jar and it smells like healthy cube. You got a good chance of pulling it out. If you open it up and it smells sour or "odd" then you might be in for an uphill battle.
