When should I start fruiting? I see two pinheads
    #20626263 - 09/27/14 02:49 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Saw my first pinheads today. I think there are two in my 6 quart monotub. It's been around 12 days.

I recall reading a while ago that you should wait 1 week after you see your first pin to "consolidate," which is a term I still don't quite understand.

no need to consolidate bulk, just fruit it at 100% colonization

Fruit it now most people only wait till full colonization for a monotub. We consolidate cakes because they are so nutritious. If you see a pin in your mono fruit that boy!

But see, it doesn't look like 100%. That's the other part I'm confused about. I've seen a post before, where it literally looked like a grain jar in a monotub. You couldn't see any verm/coir. It was thick and all whited out. I forget who posted it, but the person was showing what a "fully colonized" tub should look like. Just thick, white mycelium.

Mine is not all white, so perhaps it didn't colonize equally, since there's already two lil pinheads. Should I wait some more?

did you give it FAE before it was fully colonized?

No, but some of the duct tape I applied on the holes would peel away from time to time, from moisture buildup. It would lose its adhesion, so I'd have to apply more tape over it to keep the holes clogged during spawning stage.

Could also be a contam. How does it smell? I've seen contams cause substrates to fruit prematurely

Yea probly contam if its fruiting before 100%. A main pinning trigger is full colonization. How's it smell?

Well I don't know what 100% looks like. Is there a guide out there that shows what 100% spawn looks like?

All of 'em just tell you to fruit after 10 days, roughly.

Full colonization on a grain jar is almost whited out.

Full colonizaton on a monotub seems more like 30% white from the pics I've seen. I see plenty of brown in there. And the white looks webbier. Not cloudy/fluffy like grain jar colonization.

I also wanted general feedback on when to fruit, because the opinion on this varies so vastly. Some say to wait 1 week after first pin. Some say to fruit at 10 days, whether you see anything or not, etc.

The whole sub will be covered in myc.
The 30% photos youve seen are probably a casing layer which is partially colonized

Bulk doesn't look exactly like a grain jar but should be all evenly white.  Can you post a pic?  AND HOW DOES IT SMELL?
