Talk about Misidentification or is this Someones Sock Puppet
    #2062550 - 11/01/03 01:15 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Someone from India sent me an email tell me they found five Psilocybes in a rain forest in India.

Of course this is bs but I wanted to post it here to show you the kind of bs I get in the mail all of the time.

This is from someone named v mohta:

See below:

Here is his second letter to me and my response to him.

my reply to him:

P. azurescens, P. stunzii and P. bacteosyis (Spelled P. baeocystis) Do not grow in India at all. The only one of these mushrooms growing in India mentioned in your email to me is Psilocybe semilanceata which only grows in pasturelands in manured soil. It has nothing to do with trees or w=ood chip mulch. And it has ony been found and reported from Pune, India.

P. azurescens is a mushroom only found in Astoria and a Hammond, Oregon.

P. Baeocystis and P. stuntzii are pastureland and lawn mushrooms Found only in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S.A. and southern B.D., Canada and so not grow anywhere in India. They appear in manured Lawns, rare in pastures and also grow prolifically in Alder saw dust, woodchips or alder bark mulch, a tree not dound in India. And P semilanceata, a pasture land shroom grows fro Oregon to B.c, Upper states Nerw york and Nova Scotia, Prince Edward and Newfoundland Islands in the north east usa. But definitley not on tree stumps in India

Who knows what you are picking but you did not pick the mushrooms you are claiming to have found in India. They just do not grow there.

mj

Does this email appear to be the work of someones sock puppet?

That's one bad-ass tree stump.
Maybe a plane, carrying spore prints of these species, crashed, killing the tree, and deposited the spores on it. I'm surprised he didn't find cubes and copes growing from the mulch........hehehe....... I know I once found 100 lbs. of 2 foot  tall tampanensis growing from a pile of used Firestone tires....  **

**[ for any newbies, the above statement(s) I made is strictly bullshit, intended to be a humorous reply for Mj's enjoyment]

Mj, I guess you get crazy e-mails like that a lot.
