Pictures in sigs..

..can we get a limit on the width and height on these?
in some threads 50% of the space is taken by overly large sigs, its annoying, distracting, but mostly rude of the poster to use such large images.
I suggest something like a max height of 100 and width of ~400 the width isnt really the problem, but should be kept small enough to prevent the width of the page being effected.

agreed. There is a member with a giant Insane Clown Posse image - it is very obtuse and annoying.

Whenever I come across largely obsence or just plain large images in sig's/avatars I usually remove them. However, I'm running at 1152 x 864 resolution so sometimes what may be large on someones 800x600 screen isn't so large on mine.
We want people to be able to express themselves so we don't want to censor too much - but if you see someone with an outrageously large/obstructive banner in their sig by all means PM an admin and we'll see what we can do.
Also, I wish people wouldn't put 100K images in their sig's for two reasons. One, if takes the page longer to load for lower bandwith users; Two, if you uploaded that pic to the shroomery server you are taking a lot of our bandwidth everytime you post and people view it.

Not to mention the video memory needed, each instance is taking up ram.
im running at 1280x1024 and anything over h:100px is annoying.
Perhaps an even better idea, would be to limit threads to only show the users sig once per thread. Ive edited invisions software to do this before and wasnt all that difficult i suspect it would be similar to UBB.

I agree with geo on this one. The best way to handle this is for Admins to deal with it on a case by case basis. Every time we customize the board software, we have to contend with these customizations each we upgrade the board software.
Additionally, he is correct in that everyone should be considerate of low bandwidth users not just in terms of signatures but of avatars as well. "Netiquette" may have died sometime in the late '90s, but it shouldn't have!

Okay, what about my signature? I think it is probably pretty damned close to being too close... what do ya'll think? Should I keep it as is or should I make it smaller? Peace.

Id say pick one and use it. Or perhaps if you want each make it a animated gif that cycles between each one, then you still have all three and little space =D

Yeah, that is definitely a good idea. Any good programs to make animated gifs out there I can download? Peace.

Your animated gif is quite a bit bigger (filesize) than his three seperate pictures combined... but it does take up less space

That's cool, thanks for helping!
Yeah, maybe reduce the color palette to 5 or 6 bit and dither. I don't know maybe one picture of a bass would be enough, or he could take a new picture with all three in it...

you know you dont have to view peoples sigs if you dont want to, you can switch them off in your profile settings. but being a dial up modem user i understand what it is like when people have gigantic pics and youre waiting 10 minutes for 1 thread to open, its kinda annoying. but i dont think there should too much of a limit on them.

what if you just took one picture with all three in it? but then again, it may end up taking up close to the amout of space anyway...im sure you could just make the pic smaller, but then we wouldnt get as good a look at those beauties...so i dont know, just my 2 cents worth...
but ya, i have a peice of shit dial up conection, and some threads take an insane amount of time to load....but it doesnt bother me too much, when i run into a thread like that i cancel the action, then click the option to not view sigs and problem solved...so anyway

I agree...a person's sig is sorta like a reflection of their inner self (it's interresting to me to see what kind of shit people use to represent themselves)

Holy shit, I forgot about this thread until just now and I must say, thanks to everyone who made me an animated gif!
My fretless bass (the green one) should be arriving here in a couple of days (it would be here now if it wasn't for Norwegian customs, but I won't get started on that). I think I will look into getting a program so I can make my own, that way I can make the pictures of the individual basses the same size and a little bit smaller in size as well.
But thanks for helping out! I will pick one of them and use it until I get my fretless. Peace.

Well, according to B.C. Rich, it isn't suspossed to exist.
I mean, I was looking for some information on the net on it, and I came up with nothing. So I emailed B.C. Rich's customer service, and they said that they made the model for a very short time, and that it was never made as a fretless. He said that the original headstock is still on it, however, so it is the original neck.
This could mean that they took the frets off, but it certainly doesn't look like it in the picture. The only other thing that it could be is that they actually took off the entire fretboard from the neck and put a new one on. That doesn't seem very likely, and I definitely hope it isn't what happened.
And I swear to God that I saw it in Musicians Friend one time, being sold as a fretless bass. I remember because I thought about it, but as it wasn't five string (I'm a five string fan), I wasn't going to get it. Of course, I reconsidered now.
But yeah. I won't know until it gets here, which would have been a few fucking days ago if customs didn't suck so much. $500 and a 24% tax rate later.... Peace.
