This is what rotten and stinky liberty caps look like
    #20624352 - 09/27/14 03:23 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I was hunting for liberty caps a couple of days ago and I found a lot of them.
I arrived back home again I started sorting them out and throwing away the wrong ones. Anyway, I places some of them in a smaller container which I planned on drying first, which I did. Placed it in an oven at approx. fluctuating 40-50 Celsius. That worked fine, and it was all dandy, however when I placed them back into the tupperware, hot and dry - and closed the lid - I checked on them 3 hours later, all black, stinky, moist, sticky.
Fowl smelling really. That was not the smell of nice, clean mushrooms.

I suspect that condensation may have caused a nice breeding ground for some disgusting fungi. Lost probably maybe 2 grams :frown:

I don't know if that is a normal smell, but the other batch that I dried under a hot lamp for 3+- hours ended up nice and dry.

Here's some pics. I've never dried mushrooms so now I know what to not do.

You can even see mold on one the liberty caps in the third picture.

Try using a food dehydrator
And if you can't afford that
Get some damp rid and make a drying chamber
Way better than baking them
