Any way to speed up a slow, overly wet PF cake?
    #2062239 - 11/01/03 04:09 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

It's official -- I used way too much water to make my PF jars, especially for innoculation. It's been 23 days since innoculation. The sides have colonized fine, but the bottoms, even after I turned over my jars or layed them on their sides, still are reluctant to finish colonizing. They're colonizing slowly, but VERY SLOWLY!

The one jar whose bottom colonized over a week ago still shows no signs of pinning. Condensation still collects inside all of the jars, even with the jars not sealed. I have a fear that my cakes just won't pin. They'll just kinda stay the way they are until they run out of nutrients. They have shrunk, I've noticed.

I know shrooms require patience, but I started them on October 8th, and hoped to have some for a party on November 16. At this rate, is this realistic?

doesn't sound too bad for a first go - my first ever pf jars took about 2 months! from your description, it sounds like they'll get there.

and don't get too hung up on expecting them to pin in the jar. many growers birth before then. you can wait (i never did), but i'm pretty sure they pin better when they have triggers, like fresh humid air, light etc. which means birthing them into a terrarium - you have one ready, right? if you birth that solid white one now, you should have shrooms for your party
