Air purifier instead of home built flowhood

Hey guys, I want to get into agar, cloning and bulk work but I would prefer to start working in a nicely sterile environment because I couldn't be bothered with bacteria
I really do not mind building my own flow hood but the prices of the HEPA filters threw me off my chair.
I was looking through my local kijiji and I thought: why not use a standard HEPA air purifier as a flow hood. They are marked 99.7% and have everything already done. I could easily get my hands on a used one for $50 and then modify it, it needed.

What do you guys think?

Even if it did filter 99.7% of everything, that is highly inadequate, especially for the amount of air you will try to push through it.
This would basically be that same as working in open air with a box fan blowing over your work.
Search schmuv box for an alternative.

Nope. The point of a flow hood isn't just to clean the air, it's to make a laminar flow (hence the name flow hood) which isolates the moving air inside the flow from outside. Without laminar flow the currents just mix your dirty and clean air to have slightly less dirty air.

Yea what Pussyfart said.
Clear tote, upside down with two arm holes drilled in it. That easy! I would LOVE a flow hood but for cube purposes a SAB seems pretty effective yea?

I still think it doesn't hurt to run a HEPA filter on recirculate in a closed space where you do things, even if it doesn't replace a hyperclean work environment. Seeing beams of sun catch almost no particles in the air in the space can only be a good thing.

Indeed, I've had good results running a filter as a preventative, but not as a clean work space.
