substrate shrinking before first flush?
    #20611383 - 09/24/14 01:00 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

hey all so I've grown a couple of monos with good success but I've never seen this before. my sub is very slightly shrinking from the sides of the wall as if it were drying up. I used the same formula that I normally use..MS> WBS > damion coir tek. the only thing I can think of us is the fact that I've been closing my windows and running a heater to keep the room 75-78 degrees since it's getting chilly out. I live in an area that is extremely humid in the summer and all of my other grows have been during summer months, so I just left my windows open and that helped maintain good FAE and humidity. anyone got any insight?

Sounds like you have it figured out already, the heater is drying out the air a bit which in turn is shrinking the sub. If it's a baseboard heater you could put little glass cups of water on it to raise the humidity, I've done that before, it works but not as well as an actual humidifier.

As long as the temp stays above 70f -ish you're fine, only time they stalled on me was when it dipped to 68f for a couple days.

This particular set of genetics might just be consolidating and digesting the substrate more than your last set.

A shrinking tub is caused by two things, 1) loss of moisture and 2) digestion/consolidation of the substrate.
