Very first fruiting... feedback from experienced members appreciated...

Hi All, firstly what an awesome group of people! Glad to be here and I hope to stay.
I am currently in the middle of my first grow, thanks in large part to the knowledge I have gained from this community. I had 9 jars colonizing when 1 seemed to be done waaay before the others were even close so I decided to go ahead and fruit this one on its own.
So basically... any thoughts? concerns maybe i need to be aware of with this fc style? I kinda made it up based on what I have seen and read, seams like it should be a relatively decent method for a single cake... let me know if there's something I can do to ensure this works, and works well!
Thanks!

Your cake has not been rolled, you should roll it after the dunk, assuming you dunked (and you should). Its not going to get much in the way of FAE with that set up. You should build a SGFC cause you will need one anyway when your other cakes finish

So long as you You FAE you should be golden man. Looks like a pretty interesting setup. I might try something like this for a coffee table centerpiece...

Yes and Yes, I am fanning this cake 2x a day min(when I hydrate the perlite around it), plus if you look close there is a spacer under one side of the jar which allows some ae and also prevents the low spot on what is now the top from gathering condensation and dripping directly on the cake.
The humidity is good because as soon as I roll the jar over the condensation rolls down the side and when I set it back up its covered in droplets in minutes again. In the only tub I have (and can afford for the near future...) I am culturing the other jars in, and is going to be my fc. I will be using the air pump method hepa filter when the others fully colonize. I have no extra verm atm...
and yes... I was actually hoping for a cool decorative piece as well as functional fc... (like i said, first time... I could be way off... lmk) Thanks!

What are the hepa and air pump for? Why not build a sgfc or mono?

fanning is not FAE. RH isn't as much of an issue as fresh air. and the perlite needs air to come up through it to function, right now its doing nothing.
build the sgfc as pasty said sooner rather than later, you will not be getting a satisfying harvest this way!

I like ingenuity of your grow, I don't know if it's going to turn out well but if that's all you can afford for now and it works, then more power to you, hope it turns out ok for you.

I started with the "mega kit" from online... the air pump will pump air through a (what they call) hydroponic humidifier with hydroton... then into the FC... the perlite in this is just to keep the cake out of water and retain moisture in the environment for evep to occur. I have a small low temp (the environment doest get much above 81F) heating pad directly under the pie dish.
If rh is less important than FAE maybe I should leave uncovered for a period of time each day... but Id hate to risk... no not gonna jynx it. Or maybe take a dremel and carefully drill some holes in the glass...
I am now looking at turning the kit they designed into a SGFC...

Yea I definatly wanted to do that and yes it was dunked for about 18 hours, but unfortunately I have no extra verm atm...

I'm actually right... Fanning allows fresh air exchange. It's not supposed to be your only source of FAE but none the less fanning is exchanging fresh air to your FC

You're actually wrong.....
We do not fan for FAE, we only fan after misting the cakes/substrate for a drop in RH, to help evaporation of the water we just misted to take place.
If we did not mist, there would be no need to fan.
This is why we mist, then fan and not the other way around.
Technically, fanning after misting isn't even needed if the chamber is getting adequate FAE.
The FC should be getting constant FAE regardless....fanning is not a replacement for FAE unless you fan several times per hour.

Sometimes you fan for reasons you think are related to FAE, but really, if your chamber was built right, you are just wasting your time.

People do things off tek all the time and don't worry about it. They are usually the kind of people that happen to have extra spawn and sub just sitting around, not people looking to fruit their first cake, so they don't care if they see a poor yield. That's why we encourage people to stick to the teks at first. Its hard enough starting out and doing all that waiting to get a crap yield.

Pasty is right about sticking to the tek, especially first time. Your cake would have LOVED to roll around in some Verm after it was dunked. Leave that thing how it is unless your gonna build a sgfc.(which you should DEFINATELY DO) cake can take up to three weeks before it pins. You'll get fruits if you listen to these people and build a proper fc. You so close!!

Sorry to double post but I have a quick question... the other 8 cakes I have will only take a small portion of the SGFC I am building so I was wondering if I could take the cakes and cut them in half long ways and set them up like little burial mounds... my thinking is that I wont get as many flushes (each cake will be only 1/2 the size but will get more fruit at once... Thanks for input guys!
