Are your cakes still sitting directly on the perlite?  If so, you may consider sterilizing the lids or a wire rack to put under them to elevate them from the perlite until after the 1st flush (and then elevate them again after the second fruiting stage begins).  They don't need that much moisture.  Other than that though, it looks great.  Happy Halloween.

Lookin' good. I agree that maybe you should raise them up out of the perlite.

Looks good to me too!

When did you inoculate them?
When did you birth them?

I am just starting to try growing too. I injected on 9-27 and birthed on 10-27. here is a link to my gro log http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...&PHPSESSID=

I hope to be seeing pins soon!

lookin geeewd...

you might want to consider dunking your cakes for something like 12 hours (if you didn't) and then rolling em into sterile vermiculite just before throwing em into the terrarium.

it sure gives better results.

.fs.

Yeah, for my next attempt (I'm gonna try making my own spore syringe) I think I'm going to try casing a few of the cakes, from what I've read that will greatly increase the yeild. As for keeping the cakes off the perlite I'm gonna try that next time, I don't like moving them around, I'm afraid Ill introduce contams or mess up some pins (they seen to be doing fine without my help!) I injected the cakes with spores in the first week of September, birthed them middle of October and I noticed the first pins on the 25th of October. They took a while to reach 100% colonization because the temperature was only high 60's and I let them sit for a while after that just to be sure. Good luck with your grow niteowl, its looking really good. I think I'm going to set up an incubator to speed up colonization for my next grow. Thanx to every one for all the input!
