1st grow log (Mexicube & Corumba Brazil)

Hey guys, this will be my first grow log which will have my experiments with Mexicube and Corumba Brazil strains. I'll be posting my results one after the other of the three strains. So far I'v been working with Mexicube and I must say I think they are an awesome strain. A hungry and fast colonizer. Im growing in a tropical environment and had some trouble with my temperatures being too high at first which gave me some contams early on and some stunted mycelium growth. After I got my temps right I have had some very fast growths. Good thing about the tropical environment is my humidity is always above 90%, should be a good thing when I get to the fruiting stages. Here is what has been going on up to today:
1st Batch 9/6 - inoculated 10 half pints with Mexicube (spore syringe hydrated for 15 hours) 9/10 - Dropped temp as I noticed a jar had black pin mold 9/11 - First jar has mycelium growth, two jars quarantined 9/12 - Another jar is showing growth, lost three jars to green forest mold 9/13 - Lost another jar to green mold 9/14 - A new jar has mycelium growth 9/17 - A new jar is showing slight mycelium growth 9/19 - Three jars are growing very good. 70% colonized 9/20 - one jar is 50% colonized, another jar is about 15% 9/22 - Three jars are at 100% colonized

2nd Batch 9/15 - Inoculated 6 new jars of Mexicube (this time I let my spore syringe hydrate for a week before inoculation. The syringe liquid had mycelium or live culture floating around by that time) 9/17 - All six jars are showing growth, faster colonization than the first batch of 10. 9/20 - Colonization is going quickly in all six jars. 9/22 - All jars are getting close to 60%-70% colonized.

Jars look good. Be sure to let them consolidate for 7 days after they reach full colonization and before you birth. Very important IMO. You'll have mushies soon. Good job

Today I got five Roatan Honduras spore syringes made. A still air box was used along with the usual sterile instruments.
Im going to let the syringes hydrate for about a week while some of the mexicube jars are consolidating.

Built the fruiting area today. I birthed three Mexicube cakes also and have them dunked at the moment. I'll be moving them to one of the fruiting chambers tonight after the 12 hour dunking period has passed. I'll be birthing 7 more Mexicube cakes next Monday as they are consolidating now. Either tonight or tomorrow i'll be starting up some of the Roatan Honduras jars.

Three Mexicube cakes made it to their new home last night. They receive three mistings and four fannings per day, along with 12/12 lighting. I'll be inoculating four Roatan Honduras jars tonight.

Here are the progress of two of the Mexicubes that are in the fruiting chamber. They have been in fruiting conditions (12 hour light, 4-5 fannings and misting when needed) for four days. I think they'll start fruiting soon. How do they look to you so far?

From the pictures, that light looks a little warm. May I ask what color temperature it is?

Awesome! The lightbulb is a 6500K florescent. The aperture on my camera is making it look alot warmer.

Got my first pin yesterday (after 5 days in the SGFC). I increased my fanning to about 6-7 and now there are many pins on both cakes today. Super stoked! I have another five cakes to add to the fruiting chamber, but I think im going to wait till this first flush has passed to add them as my pinned cakes are on a different fanning/misting cycle then fresh birthed cakes.

Sorry but they actually look like they are suffering from a lack of FAE and are a bit dry due to the extra fanning. You should only fan after you mist and you should pull that SGFC out of the closet so it can operate properly.

The closet door is actually made of fabric, so it gets as much fresh air in there as my room. I have brought up my misting amount now so they should get more moisture. Thanks alot!

There should be 1 foot of clearance on all sides tho otherwise the chamber won't function properly. Ideally is should be in the middle of the room Do as you must, I do understand about life situations and the allure of the "closet grow"

I didn't know the SGFC needed a foot clearance on all sides, that makes total sense though. Thanks, I'v moved that chamber to my room for now. What were the signs that FAE were low with the pins? So i know what to look for.

The aerial spiky looking mycelium and the skinny pins with small caps is the giveaway. It will do better now with it functioning properly it will have better humidity and FAE

So I'v made some improvements to my SGFC environment. I moved the shotgun shell from the closet to a clean open area under a large wall of windows. The SGFC will get proper air flow now and the natural diffused sunlight should be an added benefit. My perlite was also only about 2.5 inches, so I have bumped that up to the 5 inches now. The two earlier cakes I had fruiting got dried out due to the low perlite level, and I had also only dunked them for 12 hours. They gave me some small, but amazingly potent fruits. I have those two cakes re-dunking now for 24 hours. I have four newly birthed mexicube cakes that are also dunking for 24 hours and will be moved to the SGFC tomorrow. Thanks a lot for the advice guys, I think this will be a lot more promising..updates to come

4 freshly birthed cakes finished a solid 24 hour dunk and moved into their new home. 2 first flush cakes completed a 24 hour dunking also, I left the small pins on that were still a healthy color but had halted growth as the cake was lacking moisture and proper FAE from its first flush. All the pins continued to grow while under water, they were thirsty

The two re-dunks are coming along today. Some of the new pins sprouting have thicker stalks then the thinner pins I left on to grow from the first flush.

I know, It is strange to me..I have holes on all sides and the SGFC is in an open clean room. I mist first then fan for about a minute almost and I fan from 4-6 times a day. So im not sure whats up with the skinny mushrooms, they were skinny pins from a first flush that had a poor earlier setup..then I adjusted the perlite, moved the SGFC into my room instead of a closet and started fanning/misting more...and the skinny pins still matured somewhat thicker, but still skinny. I have four fresh cakes in the SGFC also, so im keeping an eye on how they develop.

is something maybe clogging up the bottom holes? large pieces of perlite or soemthing?
and there's no need to fan unless you've misted. fanning is not fae.

I poked the bottom holes with a pen now and none looked clogged up. And yes, I only fan after I mist..about 4 times per day.

Sure, I dunked 24 hours. I mist about 4-5 times a day, sometimes 6 if I have insomnia and I fan after misting. I live in a tropical climate, so my humidity is 100% here (outside of the fruiting chamber). The chamber is a proper SGFC, with 5 inches of perlite.

Yeah sounds like you did everything on point. Very good, hand-fanning after misting helps. I'd say they were probably stunted a little initially from lower fae but you did the right thing and they picked up a good bit. Also keep in mind sometimes this stuff does happen when you do everything right cause with multispore the genetics is random those but those can still turn out to be decently potent. With what you've learned, I'm sure you'll get some nice flushes coming up. another tip too if you'd like you can set cakes in a dish with a little water they'll absorb it up for better fruiting. happy growing
