Can I just spray water in my SAB before closing it up or should I use something else?

I like to to pour a bottle of wintergreen iso alcohol into a sprayer and mist everything inside and around my glove box gently. It makes for a very refreshing SAB session but be careful not to make a fireball while flame sterilizing.

Just put a drop or two of dish soap in a spray bottle full of water.

I just use a couple of capfuls of Mr clean in a spray bottle diluted with distilled water... Stays wet, and disinfects.

Thanks you all, but I just sprayed with water only. Maybe I spray again with some soap in it. Shops are all closed and don't have to much money to spend so I'll make do with what I got as usual.

Soap will be fine. The idea is more to trap contams than kill them.

any type of soap works, its just to make the water a little extra sticky. a SAB has nothing to do with disinfection as hybrid seems to think, its all about still air and the nasties stuck to the tub walls!

OK so I'll go for a second misting round with soapy water. I want this to work, my last batches all got contams but now I did everything by the book so far...

I wipe my SAB down inside and out with iso then put a paper towel on the bottom soak it with iso then spray the walls of the SAB with soapy water. Haven't had a Contam yet. Did over 50 jars that way. G2g, Lc, ms, did it all no contams so far. Knock on wood

Yeah for sure they'll like new prints but I think they're really busy with trying to keep up with the requests and sending out prints. It is still a non-profit organization and as far as I know a one (1!) man organization so the dude has his hands full atm. It's weird your account still doesn't work I'll post it again. If you want you can send me a P.M. with your questions and/or remarks to FSRE and I'll post it in the forum under your name and keep you updated via PM. Maybe you'l get your answer faster like that, don't know for sure though. edit: just out of curiosity, what would you be donating them??

nah its mostly logistics about how to send those prints. I use the shroomery for all my cult info. its not all from the goodness of my heart tho, they have some awesome shirts you get if you help them with half a buttload of prints. I wants.

Do they even still make oust? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I just cannot find it on the cleaning/lysol/home products aisle?

Seriously, muda? I mean that was an honest question, wasnt being a smartass. Do they really not make it anymore? So, what is the new standard for SAB air disinfecting? I mean, lysol is advertised to clean surfaces, while oust was for air, right? Thats why oust was so reccommended for SAB work, correct? Since I couldnt find oust I have been using alcohol in a sprayer or bleach in a sprayer. What is everyone else using? Just soap and water?

Soapy water is all you need. You are just trying to trap contaminants not kill them. It's a still air box not a sterile air box. They really did stop making oust.

Well, okay then. Water or water and soap it is. Thanks guys.
And I agree, those bleach fumes were killer

what does other than heat and radiation? what about bacteria endospores? I was under the impression that bleach is more effective in disinfecting than alcohol does that only apply to living organisms so spores would not be affected?

I thought bleach was for killing bacteria and soapy water was for trapping mold spores. Figured my mixture would be a nice all in one SAB treatment.

Vinegar and H2O2 sprayed separately is CLAIMED to be a very good surface disinfectant. Anyone knows for sure?

I think what is done in a SAB only needs iso and soap and water. Iso for hands and gloves and jars and... soapy water for spraying inside to catch mold spores and trap them on the walls(best) and other surfaces rather than the air. bleach is optional and i am trying to determine if i should just leave it out. I like the sound of killing bacteria so a little extra effort(of a bleach wipedown) could help a lot.

It needs to be apple cider vinegar, the regular white vinegar is crap for disinfecting. The Apple has a way higher P.H.
Fermenting lemon grinds/oranges in water will create a very powerful disinfectant from the natural acids that raise the P.H of the water

No masculinity lost, my friend. This is useful info....plus you used the word 'fermenting'. Thats, a good, manly word imo.
