Bodhi, sorry if you said so already and I missed it, but what did ya do with all those big fruits?  Did you harvest and use?

I left them on the tree, I only took one conk to clone from. the other conks were pretty much subterranean, which is awkward since the pore surface under the conk is in the dirt rendering spore production somewhat useless I would think. Perhaps they move around through a different vector than spores, would explain why I saw so many of them in a localized area. Even the one I did harvest had broken glass bottles inside of the tissue etc...

Chlamydospores of a strain I isolated, small asexual spores that form on the tips of the hyphae. I think also, that is is not uncommon for Ganoderma mycelium to travel underground, I have seen numerous submissions to Unite database that were cultured from soil (one from Antarctica!). There may also be something called gasterospores in this species, though I have not seen them yet, which are asexual spores forming within the flesh of the fruitbody itself, which may explain why it is so easy to clone.

interesting, so the clone I took may actually not be a clone but germinated spores not of the traditional type.

Always a possibility, the genetics will be the same however as they are asexual spores.

sure makes sense, could explain how something like rodents would carry it to other trees. every resinaceum I found was semi-subterranean I didn't really see any pore surfaces above ground aside from a few small conks growing on conks which seems to be the G.Res thing to do with the overlapping brackets.

Yeah they really do tend to do that a lot, I really have a profound interest in ganoderms, althought I have readd many people find them boring, far from boring to me!

I read that in Australlia, it is illegal to import reishi!
I can't wait to see how this turns out, are they ready to be  spawned yet, or maybe you have already and I missed it, I was just taking a quick peak at what had been going on with the culture.

Ganoderma has become a strong point of interest to me, I am not sure why but it is fueling my progression into serious mycology. I have no idea how it could be boring, bright shining red conks, black conks, yellow conks, blue conks. Some with stems, some without, and a huge variety of species.

This is the skin of Ganoderma curtisii under a microscope, these cells are actually embedded in a resin that needs to be removed before you can see them. Each species tends to have slightly different cells and their shapes can tell a lot about the identity.

An incredible family of mushrooms.

I agree Mr cloudy, so beattiful, and man oh man, I am still making reishi tea off that side by side I did, which I learned a shitlaod  from you on, TY!

I was wondering Mr cloudy, I found a turning brown, but still alive oyster culture last week, or the week before, it was almost frozen on the outside, I'm not sure what the insides were line, anyway, I wrapped it in a paper towel, and put if in my fridge, do you think it would be a waste of time to try and clone it, I absolutely love P. Ostreatus, but don't want to waste my time, if you don't think it will work, I read in GG&MM that you need to clone within a few hours, if not days if refrigerated, or it would be extremely difficult to do, what r your thoughts?

I have been focusing on polypores lately, softer mushrooms, not so much. If it was frozen it might have been killed. The only real way to know is to give it a try, I get hit or miss with oysters anyway it seems. I can store a reishi in the fridge for weeks before I get to cutting it though.

Ok, thanks man, I don't really think the inside was froze, it was more just a frost, but hell, IDK!

Sorry bodhi, back to the ot!

I inoculated a jar of rye coir and vermiculite it fully colonized then I added sawdust. 1/3c and 1/3 boiling water then I sterilized it in a jar and poured it in the original jar. and then I shook it up a bunch but the sawdust mostly just surrounded the cake of original substrate. It just colonized the sawdust in about a day. I'll get a picture in a second.

I also wondered bodhi, are you doing this just cause they are awesome to grow, or you going to make tea, or the tincture, If I wasn't an alcoholic, I would make both, simply because the extract has gotta last longer, but man, I used to hate the teA, know I love it, it's soothing, almost to the point of popping a few beers for me, probably just a placebo affect, but the thought of it was something that I worked hard to make probably has a lot to do with it also, but it has went from tasting like total shit, to being GOOD, kind of weird!

I've never made it into anything but artistic pieces. I should try the tea, I grow them because they're awesome.

You know, that's one thing that I wished I would've done with some of mine, which I tried, but they shriveled up on me, any good ideas to keep  the original look?
