Casing Question
    #2057322 - 10/30/03 01:46 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

Hey everybody,

So my FOAF wanted me to ask this question, at the time she cased, she got these metal bread pans, she thought they were perfect, didn't have to cover the sides, the right size she needed, etc. So the casings went well, the two she did already show growth, but here is the problem she has...

The incubation chamber is at a sort of high humidity, the fish tank heater is in a big bucket type deal. So anyway, she checked on the casings today and noticed a tiny bit of rust on the pans! She said she totaly over looked the rust factor when she bought the pans. So her question is, will the rust be a problem? She said when it goes into the fruiting chamber it will probably get worse, she said she feels like a dummy. What should she do?

So I talked to my FOAF again just a little while ago, she said she transplanted and recased. She fears for the worst, but will meditate for them tonight. She says experience comes from mistakes and learning from them, and only time will tell what happens.

She says thanks.

yeah, they weren't aluminum I dont really know what it was except that it was rusting. She is really hoping the new cases make it, I will keep you posted to see if the transplant and recase is successful or not.

Well, from what my FOAF told me there are no signs of contamination today in the new recasings, there is even a little bit of mycelium showing. Hoping for the best, psilo and hanky she wishes she read your posts before she freaked out and recased... oh well, she says live and ya learn.

I will keep posting for her on the progress.

Just talked to my FOAF again today, she said to post that the one casing tried failed, a patch of the green meanie got to it. The other attempt there are no signs of contamination or mycelium growth yet, she thinks it will be a while to see anything from it....
