composted manure?
    #2059079 - 10/30/03 10:25 PM (21 years, 1 month ago)

My friend just bought a 40 lb bag of manure. The ingredients are "Composted manure" and "spagnum peat moss". It just looks like dark colored soil. Is this nutritious since its composted? Would it be classified as spawn or casing substrate? And, has anyone used it before and what results have they gotten?

It should work.

It would be classified as a substrate. Not a spawn or casing.

You'll most likely going to want to pasturize it before using it.

Another option you have is to go to a pasture and collect horse/cow manure yourself!

i think it says 0-0-.5 :-( it says .5% N - .4% water solubable and .1% water insoluble (or vice versa) will this work!??!

I just tried (unsuccessfully) to use some "Black Kow" composted manure. I think I sterilized it on accident and it didnt colonize along with the straw...it was also too wet...Bacillus set in with the first day of incubation and the smell almost knocked me over. Good luck and make sure to get the proper moisture content!

It's worth the drive to any proximate stables. If there is such a place anywhere near you, there is someone willing to give you poo (for free ).
