First grow, how can I improve my results
    #20583638 - 09/18/14 12:57 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

First grow ever, made 6 bulk cakes, each consisting of 4 lbs of hpoo and 2 lbs of spawn (rye berries). I used a variety of tubs to see what diff results I might get, fanned 4 times a day, misted twice daily, constant 72°f and kept rh at or above 90% at all times(according to hygrometer lol). Strains used were golden teacher in one tub, blue meanie in 2, and pes Hawaiian in 3 tubs, altogether I ended up with 8 1/2 oz dry from them. Thanks to all the info on this site I was able to research before starting and diagnose most issues along the way. So thanks goes to everyone at the shroomery for my success of my first run. My question is, what can I do diff to achieve better end results and im still a little confused about 2nd and 3rd flushes. 2 tubs have had 2nd flush but didnt really get any new pins, just had already present pins come back to life.

Start using agar and lighting can be the difference too.

Thank you for the feedback. I figured I would wait till my second project to start agar but I am a little confused about the importance of light, I have read lots of contradicting material on it. Here are a couple pics to give you an idea of what I have going.

ive read that sometimes pins form all at once but dont actually grow to fruits at the same time, thats why its important to harvest carefully (twist and pull or cut, dont yank them out)

as for lighting....

Would it be ok to put jars and monos in front of a window? All of my jars are currently sitting directly in front of the window and it gets sun most of the day.

Monotubs yes, but colonizing jars should not be exposed to very bright light as it will slow down colonization and could induce early pinning in the jars.  For colonizing jars, regular ambient room light on a day/night schedule is much better than darkness, but avoid very bright light.

Will standard fluorescent tube lights be too much, not enough or just right for fruiting? My room is in a windowless room, so the lights are kind of bright to make the room brighter.

We recommend fluorescent lamps in the 5000K to 6500K color temperature range.  Cool white tubes normally found in stores are around 5000K while 'daylight' lamps will run at 6500K.

keep in mind im still a noob.... but i read and use the search function a lot

by the way GREAT JOB!!!

@Spacechildo, really? Read a tek, better yet stick to a tek lol. Sorry elitist. I have a read alot of material, I wouldnt ask for advice without doing some research but if you dont have any real advice then plz dont respond. As for that sub block, yes it is sitting on top of perlite. I have 5 diff teks going cause I wanted to see how results would vary from one tek to another. That particular tub I wanted to see if that would work and it actually did quite well. This is some of what I today

i think the OP didnt like that criticism as it wasnt constructive to someone who has read the teks in question ?
i dont know , only conjecture !

wanted to say good work !!
not a super crazy canopy , but certainly a well done grow

definitely post up the techniques you used ,
even if you made them up , lol

i'm sure people can then better chime in as to the pros and cons of your setups

the title of your thread is how can I improve results, I told you to read & follow a tek!
notice when I said is that sub block directly on perlite?
that means the sub block should NOT be put directly on perlite.

I doubt you'd find any teks that tell you to do so,
and if you did please link them so it can be moved to the trashy teks list!
