Contamination I've never seen before.

This shit definitely came from a bad spore syringe. I'm sure of this because I inoculated different jars at different times in different places with the offending syringe, and only the jars inoculated from the syringe in question look infected.
I inoculated other jars with a different syringe and they're fine. The vector isn't in question, but the species of mold is. I don't want spores of this ugly shit infiltrating my house. The contam initially presents as a chalky looking powder covering my grains, and in a few days it turns into a very aggressive powdery yellow mold. I want to identify it first, and then I want to make sure all traces of it are killed.
I was thinking of steaming the contaminated jars for 2 hours, then dumping the grain down my garbage disposal. I can't get a good pic yet, but I'm sure the shit will be rampant by tomorrow and I can take a good pic then. The first jar I inoculated from the same offending syringe looked a little weird (chalky) one day and exploded the next. I disposed of it by dumping the grains straight down the garbage disposal last time, but I'll likely have 5 quart jars of contaminated shit this time.
Because of how aggressive this mold is I want to take no chances. My place is so spore free ATM that my bread doesn't even get moldy. I'm curious about identifying it, but mostly I want to fucking destroy it and never see it again.

if you wanna get rid of it just make sure you dont grind it all up in a garbage disposal to throw spores everywhere, as long as you dont do that everything will be fine... come on man you cant explain something so crazy and chalky powdery then not give us a pic.
for real though probably just get the jars outside (after pics) and dump them. open them under water if youd like so the spores wont fly aroudn on your clothes or what have you. ive always just dumped contamed jars outside away from my house but PCing them is supposedly the proper and hip thing to do

first off pictures, second off no one really cares what the contamination they get is they just get rid of the jar. Dump it outside or boil it then dump it out inside. Not rocket science.
you can put a jar with contamination in a pot of room temp water and bring it up to a boil by the time it's boiling you'll have killed all the spores in the jar if you want you can just open the jar and dump it into a used grocery store bag or something and tie it up. 140F kills spores.

Here you go. It's not well developed yet but I know it's bad.

I only want to identify it to satisfy my own curiosity. Nothing wrong with that, right?

no, but most of us are hobbyists not biologists. my guess is wild yeast though.

I should have elaborated. I filled the sink up with water, submerged the jar, opened it, shook out all the grain underwater, pulled the drain plug, and only then did I turn on the disposal.

Well fuck. Maybe I should save a jar and make some hard cider lol. Got some vapor locks that I haven't used.

it's hard to get a good primary fermentation from just wild yeast alone. that and unless you know your regions yeast you don't know it's propensity to create higher alcohols and things like diacetyl. Do a regular primary with a clean culture then experiment with wild yeast in the hopes for a slightly funk/sour/feet beer.

The only thing I've ever brewed at home is kombucha. I don't know word one about brewing beer or cider. Guess it's just better to toss the contaminated jars.

if you can make kombucha you can make beer, don't try to replicate or buy kits. use what's available start small simple cheap local and try to measure each variable and control things precisely.
if you want to get into beer PM me.

I'll keep that in mind. There's a brewing supply store right by my house. I've heard plastic water jugs work as well as glass carboys. If I ever get the itch and get all the materials together I'll definitely hit you up!

the betterbottle carboys work best they're made of PET plastic which has better properties to act as a non-glass carboy than other plastics like PETE which is more commonly found. There usually around the same price as glass but glass is dangerous in a 6 gallon size full wort. Always having to use a wort chiller since you don't want a hot glass carboy. The better bottles take some heat but you still have to get under 120 I believe or they get very flexable. just use 1 gallon glass jugs for wine and buy a small racking cane.

My coworker said he was getting his hands on some koji pretty soon (same dude that I got my kombucha SCOBY from), and I find the idea of making sake and miso very alluring. That's for down the road though. I'll ask one last question before this thread gets totally derailed, and then we ought to get back on topic. For a beginner homebrewer (with kombucha experience), would you recommend starting with beer or wine (or sake if my friend comes through with the koji)? I have some glass gallon jugs and vapor locks, but I'm busy with my mushroom project right now and probably won't seriously consider brewing anything until the PE agar plates I started the other day have fruited.

wine is easier in theory but it's more skilled so beer is likely an easier place to start and cheaper.

Agar is still going great. These contaminated multispore jars were from some leftover shit. Emphasis on shit. I think I saw growth on one of the agar plates today though

Then, because it tastes shitty, you can mix it with fruit juice like those stupid asshole Belgian monks and try to pass it off as something you did on purpose and not at all out of incompetence.
