Agar timeframe Q

If I'm testing air samples.......
So I opened several plates for 10 seconds to test the quality of the air I am using. At 75ish degrees how long would you guess before I will see growth on 250ml h2o, 5g agar, 6g LME?
I know it depends on what lands on it and such, just looking for a ballpark.
Would you call it safe if nothing shows up for 5 days or do I need more?

I wouldn't do that at all. Sounds like a good way to waste supplies though. Why would you want to slack on your aseptic technique?

I would give it a week(maybe 2 to be safe) and if nothing by then you should be good.....but it could very well take longer.....I have seen plates take a month to "go bad" from open exposure to the elements.

Why would I open a blank plate to test the quality of filtered air????
Because its nice to know if your filter is efficient, what junk you have in your house, etc.
Agar is cheap, petris are cheap, etc.

I don't understand your concern Hyphai. If he wants to conduct an experiment at his expense he should be able to do so without being judged. Its not wasting supplies if he has a legitimate reason.

That's actually part of maintaining aseptic technique, ensuring the quality of your "sterile" air is up to par.

How interesting...
Crazy that open air can take that long in comparison to noccing up and seeing contams in days, even with the presence of healthy myc.

Lots of variables. I also like to test grain jars as well, see if the filters are still working, etc. Never hurts to test stuff
