Hmm I was under the impression that fully colonized cakes were pretty resilient from contams. Were you rough with them? Looks kinda bluish on my screen but that could be me. Were any other cakes effected?

The dunk wouldn't be the cause of the contam. The contam would have already been present and just now started showing itself when it started sporulating and turning green.
It's hard to tell from the pic though. Is the big spot on the side of the first pic green? The rest of of it appears to be bruising from the pics you provided.

No, it was blue, and now black. Green is only on the left over parts from where i picked the first flush. Last two pics, i believe.

So your saying that if trich was present before, it could have grown while dunking? I know spent cakes can get contam, and since this is my first grow, maybe they are only good for one flush before goin bad? :P
On a more serious note, i changed the water every few hours, since i left them in room temp. Usually when i saw the water level getting close to the top of the cake (dunked in cup, with cup on top). About 3 changes of water, over the 24 hour period. I added bleach to the second rinse, and left a little in the water.
I did get green mold in a jar i was colonizing, so im praying it didnt spread. Also the cause of using bleach.

don't use bleach and no need to change the water, just dunk and rinse

Since im not using the refrigerator, and i have to keep house abouve 72 degrees, and im dunking in a small cup, contam can thrive, or so i read on the main site. The answer was to change water.

Do your cakes smell rotten? I overdunked 12 cakes and rinsed them well and rolled in verm. Now a week later they still kinda have a sour smell and only have just began to grow mycelium thru the verm layer. Hopefully they will start pinning soon ;]

bacteria is pretty common during the dunk but easily taken care of by the rinse other then that the cake can fend for itself, bleach does nuthing but harm the poor thing. changing the water is fine to do so but i've never seen the need

i havent done too many cakes but i always dunk 24 hr after birth then just like 12 hr for the subsequent dunks. do they feel water logged or soggy or real heavy or anything? they look a little funny besides the blue/black color. although all my cakes quickly start to look like scraggly beggars after a flush or two

you should rinse them and get rid of any pins before dunking and rinse again after the dunk, no need for bleach you could use a tiny bit of isopropyl alcohol next time, kills spores but wont harm mycelium.
judging from the pics it looks like bruising, what did you use to weigh it down in the cup? since you changed the water out several times you might have just banged up the top where the weight was during the water change. I wouldnt toss it just yet but definitely isolate it from any other cakes just to be safe.

you can keep pins on for dunking, ive never had any kind of problems with small pins, the few bigger ones ive dunked got a little bulbous at the bottom but then grew fine.
also i believe alcohol only bacteria not mold spores but i may be wrong. it shouldnt be put in dunk water though either way

it def kills mushroom spores, why shouldnt it be used in dunks? never had a problem

just an extra precaution I use and was offering it as an unharmful alternative to the bleach that the op used, asking Mdahmer why he said not to use it

iso does harm mycelium, maybe not watered down like dumping it in your dunk water but it's pointless, it's gonna be covered in mold spores again anyway

also while it isnt "bad" to leave pins on during the dunk they can get bruised and damaged which makes for some strange fruits as well as an uneven flush when it comes to maturing

can you show me a study that supports your claim? The only study I've seen concerning myc and iso suggest that it isn't harmful.
