No Pins???
    #2057348 - 10/30/03 03:51 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

Well my friend cased some stuff using a layer of verm covered by mycelium, covered by a product sim to jiffy mix with some crushed oyster shells mixed in, in two little 4x4 ceramic microwave containers on 10/9 he left 'em covered in incubation area at 80f for a little over a week to allow mycelium to spread. He was getting small patches of growth through the top so he moved to grow area, after cold shock, (around 9/16 or so) where they are sitting now. Temps are avrage 75, rm 75, he fans twice a day and mists when the top begins to change color slightly. The patches are of mycelium are getting bigger, he's not even close to overlay yet but it's been two weeks simce cold shock. Is he just getting his panties in a bunch for no reason here?
Thanks!

The jiffy mix will contaminate. Use a non-nutricious layer next time.

I've seen many posts that state jiffy-mix is a sweet casing material.

It sounds like you may have removed them form incubation a little prematurely. Would anyone recommend reintroduction of incubation conditions?

It's potting soil. Verm/Peat, masically.

Hertyar,

Don't incubate your casing for so long. A day or two is plenty. Pinning sometimes takes up to 20 days. Wait another week and fan frequently. Patch the areas that are poking thru now, then just leave it alone. With any luck, it'll start to pin any day now.

Good luck.
