It looks ready, but I'd leave it 2 maybe 3 more days. Can you see if the bottom is colonized?

Definitely give it 3 more days then. It's easier to drill holes before you spawn.

I don't think that's consolidated enough o.o A fully consolidated tub should look like this, more like: https://files.shroomery.org/files/08-003/060714786-pooling.jpg

I think you mean 'colonized', not 'consolidated'.

i had a new tub i couldnt drill out before i spawned recently. just lay a paper towel lightly on the sub once its colonized and drill so it catches all the plastic shit.
you definitely need holes though for fruiting no question about that. if its like 50-66 qt id use 1"-1 1/2" holes on the bottom. two on each long end, a few inches in from the end of the tub and right above sub level and on the short ends up top under the handles a 1 1/2" - 2" holes

What does it mean to consolidate after your monotub has fully colonized?

Best to wait for some pins to form before fruiting, sure fire way to know it's ready.

I disagree. Best way to get pins is to put the tub in fruiting conditions!
consolidation means the sub is fully colonized and the myc is starting to digest the nutes and not just run over the outside of the grains.

It means the same thing it means for cakes. There are some people who let bulks consolidate after 100% colonization. Most people fruit once it's 100%. I like to let mine sit for 1 or 2 extra days after 100% just to make sure. We let cakes consolidate to metabolize nutrients. Cakes are highly nutritious and you get blobs if you fruit Them too early. Bulk grows are not as nutritious and do not need the consolidation period.
If you fruit it before it's ready, it won't pin till it's ready anyway. If you're not sure if it's ready, an extra day or two is better than too early.
Some people leave it colonizing until they see pins. This can give you really good pin sets, but sometimes many of those pins may abort because they are pinning do to other reasons besides the introduction of FA. I often leave mine for an extra day or two after 100%. But not really consolidating per se and definitely not waiting for pins. Some of this stuff is a matter of preference and what works well for some may not work as well for others and various genetics can play a role in what what works.

btw light doesnt affect side pinning the reason ppl use liners is bcuz of loss of moisture and the shrink of sub if i remember correctly

contamination can cause early pinning.
running out of nutrients, like with long consolidation, can start pinning without introduction of FAE.
100% colonization is a primary pinning trigger, but it works best in concert with FAE which leads to evaporation off the surface which is also a pinning trigger.
The liner is used to prevent side pins. The liner sticks to the mycelium and shrinks withe sub as it shrinks, thus preventing the micro-climate that causes side pins.
Although light is not a primary pinning trigger and is not the cause of side pinning, it may help with pinning when in conjunction with 100% colonization and introduction of FAE.

I really wish you luck on drilling into the sides of that thing. I'd say fold the plastic over while you do it, and place something else in there to catch all the plastic bits so you can remove them easily. And just tape the holes until you have them all done so you can do the polyfill all at once, just my 2 cents brotha

Personally I would heat up a round piece of metal and melt through the plastic instead of drilling.

That's what i do with a blow torch, takes forever have to heat it twice per whole sometimes 3 times... So i have to heat it 20 times for a tub and until it gets red on top of it it smokes everywherree ...
