my cakes aren't growing

2 weeks ago I inoculated my jars. Everything went smooth. My only problem was I couldn't find any Brown rice flour so I blended up some Brown rice. Now I'm starting to get concerned. If the rice wasn't organic could I have screwed myself? Any advice would be helpful. The temp has been right. Everything was done correctly, but still no blooms. I'm on the verge of opening a jar to see if there is any growth in the middle.

As long as everything is done right you should see some growth. Sometimes it just takes a while

Thank you. I guess I'm just getting nervous. I expected to see something by now. I used Costa Rican spores. I wish I knew more about them. Ordered them from a good site.

MS?
Not sure how many cc's. They were the only ones I could find. I think they hold 2 cups.

Sorry i worded that poorly. What i meant was, how many cc's of the spore syringe did you put into each jar?

I may have used to much (if there is such a thing). I used the whole syringe on 4 jars (5 holes in each jar).
Sorry I couldn't be more exact.

Yeah that's way over kill. You only need 1cc per jar, and each jar only needs 4 holes

Its a waste and it can throw off the moisture content in the jars, favoring bacteria and mold growth. Why you don't have any growth i have no idea.

You can remove the foil for better gas exchange. You don't need anything covering the holes on the jar lids if you have a layer of dry verm on top

I put a layer of dry verm on top when I canned them. I imagine it's not dry anymore though. Lol

Will do. One more question... Is it normal to see the soil settle an inch in the jars? There was no room when I canned them, yet now there is an inch of air space at the top of the cans.

I haven't seen that ever happen to any of my jars. And i haven't heard of that happening. Maybe someone else can chime in on that question.

From your initial response and this one it sounds like you got the dry layer of verm wet which could have caused the "sub" to settle.
If the dry layer got wet the ratio is now off for your ver/BRF/water.
The dry layer is to help keep out harmful bacteria and if you got water in the jar after the sterilization process you now have greater risk for contaminates and the mic is no longer in optimal growing conditions due to the excess water.

Did you get excess water in the jars and if so during which process?

If I add water to verm the verm end up taking MORE space than without the water. 1 + 1 is never 1/2

I think to much water got in when I inoculated. I checked the marks on the needle and realised I put about 1.5cc's per hole (5 holes each jar). I was stupid.
I'm thinking about scrapping the jars and starting over. I may give them one more week. If I see no change they go bye bye.
