There has to be a limit on how much a candidate can spend on their campaign.

I guess this is what im trying to convey, if an independent campaign maker wants to make a film or song or book or banner or commercial, or whatever, about a candidate then that's okay, but if at the end the candidate says i approve of this message, then the candidate must make sure that they don't endorse anything or combination of anything that goes above the campaign set dollar amount.

There is a limit on how much any one person can donate to a candidate.  This has absolutely nothing to do with Citizens United.  How would you cap spending, anyway?  Would you have the same limit for a Senate race in NY as in North Dakota?  Lower limits for House seats, governorships, state assemblies?  What about the Party committees?  Shut them down?

Easily.

You can cry "but freedom," but in the real world every law that exists restricts freedom.

If I have to axe the anonymity of political groups to prevent Goldman Sachs from buying my Congressman, so fucking be it.

Somehow Canada managed to do it without becoming Nazi Germany.

Once again you completely missed the point.  He wanted to put limits on spending by candidates.  There are already limits on how much anybody can donate to a candidiate.

I'd rather Goldman Sachs ran the country then these feckless cunts the retards elect

Pretty much everybody in office.

There is an intrinsic flaw to Democracy.  The skills needed to get elected have almost no overlap with the skills needed to govern

Agreed.

But Goldman and their ilk get pretty much everyone in office elected, too.

You misinterpreted. You can donate till your hearts content, but the amount spent should be limited, otherwise you will get ONLY wealthy people who want power and control, and they will flood the market so to speak. When there is a limit, it comes down to who is the better candidate. Come on.

Also yes to all your other questions.

So, you'd be alright living in a country where a government agency decides what is and what isn't political spending and can censor those they deem to have spent too much on political issues?

I actually don't.

But the biggest step to making them honest is to reform campaign finance laws.

Giving government the power to decide what political speech is and isn't allowed is pretty much giving politicians the power to keep themselves in office forever.

You gonna ban media editorials and union donations at the same time?

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation.
