Are These Ready To Birth Yet?
    #20565108 - 09/14/14 07:57 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

First time grow. About eight weeks ago I found these yellow mushrooms growing in the back garden, so I did some research and decide to try to grow some because they are quite pretty.
I took a spore print from the biggest one (pictured in my profile - the cap was about 5cm diameter) and had a nice purple Rorschach on a fresh paper serviette.
I bought some new sterile 10ml syringes, and half a dozen pre-made half pint jars, with brown rice flour, vermiculite and worm castings. I made up two spore syringes, and used one to inoculated 2 jars.
That was almost 6 weeks ago. I kept the jars in the dark, at room temperature around 20 degrees Celsius. Growth started after about 8 days, however, I assume because the temperature was a little under optimal, it was quite slow.
Now the jars are almost fully colonised, but there are a couple of small gaps where I assume the substrate is perhaps a little dry, and therefore harder to consume. Should I just leave them for another week?

Eight weeks? Id say they're good to go op.....

But when you say "little yellow mushrooms" I think of these...

Which are lethal if ingested

See the picture in my profile. That's the exact one I took the purple spore print from.

Here's a closer picture. I don't think we even have those bright yellow ones where I live.

Keep in mind also op that there are others families of mushrooms that produce a purple spore print....ref

if the mushroom bruised blue I would figure it to be "active" and its possibly a "liberty cap" that you found which are found in grassy/leafy areas around this time of year. Someone more knowledgeable should chime in..

It is almost definitely Psilocybe Subaeruginosa. They bruised blue, and I dried about 5 of them in a brown paper bag in a draw, roughly chopped them and added them to tea, and then spent several very goofy and pleasant hours enjoying coloured patterns and realisations of personal and universal wellbeing. I didn't weigh them, but given the largest was only 4-5cm, and the rest were about 3cm, they didn't weigh much and seemed quite strong.

Finally popped these out of the jars. Nice mushrooms smell. Scraped off the excess vermiculite that was stuck to the top, put them in Tupperware container in water with a little hydrogen peroxide, just to kill off any bug attacks.  Chilling in the fridge.
There was some mycelium stuck to the bits of vermiculite that scraped off. Going to add that to new jars to see if it colonises.
These are Subaeruginosa, from what I've read they require the presence of a microbe found in soil and wood  to fruit, so I don't know my exact plan yet. Will have to try a few things.
