pinning or just more mycelium?

i cased a standard rice-verm cake a few days ago, tossed it in the fruiting chamber, and now the mycelium is starting to cover the casing. i have a dozen or so things sticking up i am hoping are pins, but i'm not sure. they look like ropey strands of mycelium standing strait up, about an 1/8 inch or so. pins, or mycelium? should i change anything? i'll post pics upon request.
also... what about growing treasure coast cubies outdoors in the california bay area? think it will work?

It will work in the bay area.
The myc is just getting threw the casing layer. Pins will come soon.

Those aren't pins; just rhizomorphic mycelium, but keep it looking that way and you should see plenty of pins soon

probably 8-14 days after birth, the pins will form. i birth my casings when the white starts to show through (like in your pics) though some stick it straight into the terrarium. both ways work.
i used to think these were pins (they're not - that's aerial myc):

but they have brown heads, like this:

once you see a pin, you'll always know them
