Did you notice the pre-auction estimate? We're in the wrong business. We should be trying to sell OTD threads...

PAUL "MCCARTHY" -- No "N" He's a phtographer/conceptual artist who was big in the '70s/'80s...
Paul McCarney's wife Linda Eastman was a photographer, though. She phtographed Willem DeKooning for a monograph on the artist back in the '80s...

I didn?t know paul McCarntney did art? What is his art like? Is that one of his works that you posted -- it?s rather Baconish...
I?ve been browsing Sotheby?s Online Auction catalogs, in between painting tonight, gathering images. I love auction catalogs because that?s where you get to see the real stuff -- the work-a-day art that pays the bills -- not just the same dozen famous images you see over and over again in every monograph and retroscpective catalog...
Francis Bacon Unkown Triptich (study for a portrait?)

Yeah, Baconish is right...I really like it though. They had hardcover books of his art at Borders on sale for $6.99 (!) so I picked one up and I really like his work. A lot of critics don't care for him though.

The acknowledged intelligentsia that comprise the "core" of the Art world (with a capital "A") is very suspicious of actors and musicians that start dabbling in painting. I think this is partly justified, because they can use their fame to advance themselves beyond far more deserving talent, but nevertheless, sometimes this is wrong. I do rather like that work by Paul, and I am actually surprised by it. Much as I was surprised by this color painting by Franz Kline, I found today, from late in his career... I?d always kind of been "iffy" on Kline, but I want to find more of these...

I started this thread in OTD, but I thought I might move it here, as I haven't been spending enough time here...
