Lets see. Heres things I fucked up on my first few grows:

* Don't pressure cook/sterilize too long. You will cook the rice.
* Use PLENTY of perlite! 5-6" is ideal. I was cheap and only bought 1 8qt bag once, about 2.5", and the humidity was too low I barely got any pinning. Once I added another bag of perlite and rehydrated it BAM! Pin city son!
* Wipe with alcohol THEN flame sterilize when innoculating.
* And most importantly: Patience is key young grasshopper :levitate:

Can't think of anything else atm. But as said above, fallow directions EXACTLY and don't go rogue on any of this shit. Once you got a few grows under your belt you may find the need for tweaking things a bit. But for now; to the T nigga. :goodluck:

Follow the video, it's pretty easy, step by step, even if you just leave your cakes in the fruiting chamber for weeks, and do nothing, they will still fruit(Ive left cakes in the chamber for 2-3 weeks without seeing or touching them to come back to fully fruits) I wouldn't recommend that, but just saying, it's pretty easy. Good luck!

So you think that pressure cooking for an hour or steam sterilization for 90 min isn't going to cook the rice? :confused2:

Let me rephrase that dick;

I meant it will FRY the rice if PC'd too long. OF COURSE it's going to cook the rice somewhat under intense heat :smirk:
I left my PC on high and forgot about it once. Came back and the shit was dark brown. Not ideal.

Anyways... my point was "Don't pressure cook/sterilize too long"

And who cares if I said it will "cook" or "fry" the rice? I am a novice still and was just trying to give him some tips so just chill..

Yes, I am glad he cleared it up. But, he was in fact being a smug dick about the way he brought it to my attention. It was very unnecessary and also demeaning.

This is a place to learn, not to shake your little dicks around and act like everyone who is not a master mushroom cultivator should be treated like crap.

A lot of you mushrooms "pros" on here (not all) seem to have a VERY short fuse for people making small mistakes in their comments/advice. I'm sure ALL of you have made mistakes starting out.

That being said, have a nice day, and suck my balls :peace:

Well you're right, in an information based web-site like this its get your facts straight or STFU.
Dont guess, dont talk about stuff you've only read but never tried etc
and you're good.

You SHOULD be afraid to post BS, I mean, ask all you want that's not "illegal" only annoying to some extent,
but if you're gonna tell a noob to be careful at least try to throw in

a) a proper concern
or b) STFU

Your information wasn't incorrect.

Keep you jars from burning by keeping them off the bottom of the pot on a trivet\jarlids\foil.

PF Cakes that get broiled to the point of burning are useless.

You can greatly exceed the 60 min PC time for a pf cake with no problems. I am certain you could PC it for 4 hours with no issues whatsoever. If you run your PC dry, or forget to elevate your jars, then you could burn them. But the original statement was. . .

Quote:

* Don't pressure cook/sterilize too long. You will cook the rice.

If he said

Quote:

don't run your PC dry

or

remember to elevate the jars off the bottom

I would not have had anything to correct. Anyway its settled and I am sure OP and anyone else reading this will have the picture so. .  .

Ok ok! Just to make things perfectly clear:

When I said "Don't cook your jars too long, blah blah whatever", I was talking about an experience I had where I had the temp up too high, walked out of the room, got myself too high, and came back an hour later to my PC spewing steam and burnt cakes.

And I'm not that big of an idiot! I use jar lids to cover the bottom + a layer of foil over that :goat:

I guess I should have been more clear and said "don't PC your jars on TOO HIGH of temp, cus THEN it will burn them". My apologies.

Sowwy for this misunderstanding/misinterpretation. I could have saved myself from all these exciting arguments >.<!

While coarse perlite works best you can use several things in place of it. Hydroton, aquarium rocks, and gravel will all work in a pinch. Even wet paper towels can get you by tho you have to change them out regularly to prevent mold from growing on them.

Go to a hydro store, they have all kinds of good stuff including coir, verm, gypsum, lime, worm castings, as well as perlite and its usually way cheaper than hardware stores.

What stores have you checked? Do you have a Lowe's or Homedepot near? They both have it. Gardening stores as well should carry it.

If not order some online. If you're just starting your jars as you said you will have plenty of time before you need perlite.
