I can't seem to ID this mushroom. Location: South Carolina Habitat: Growing in some moist trampled dirt and grass near a cow pasture. Cap: From 1 to 3 cm in width, bell shaped to convex, smooth but not really slimy, Golden Orangish brown color(although the pictures are off a little). Gills: Closely spaced, light olive brown in young stage, dark olive to almost black in mature. Gills are free from stalk. Stem: 2 to 3 inches, smooth, fiberous, kind of a light, not quite white, golden color. Spore print was black. Smells kind of like fresh rain or something.
now that is odd. i'm thinking maybe the color is off by more than just a bit.
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
Yeah, the colors are definatly off in the pictures. The firt one is too red and the others a too light. The real color looked almost exactly the same as the top of a loaf of bread, kinda golden orangish. If I ever get the money, I'm going to invest in a good digital camera, although I don't see that happening for a while.
