Colonizing Jars Faster?

Okay so my spores are finally in and ready to inoculate 12 pre-made jars, all pre-sterilized.
I have a two-tub setup, with an aquarium heater. Will the jars colonize faster if I place them into the tub surrounded by the heated water(water in the 2nd tub), or will this inhibit their growth?

Incubators are un necessary unless you live in a freezer. My jars do just fine at room temperature.

I suggest you ditch the heater & incubator.
It's a matter of Risk vs. Reward
Reward = Possible minor speed-up for colonization of jars. Risk = Major added possible contamination

Don't try to adjust the temperatures during colonization. Room temp (72-78F) and normal indirect light cycles are fine.

I had issues this summer with my main floor of the house having huge temperature swings up 95F and my basement being only about 70F.
I found a TiT worked well. I set it at 76F and the ambient temp was 80 on the nose.
Now that the hot summer days are over I will forgo the TiT but they have their place.

I use a TiT just to keep a steady temp. But I don't crank it up just 76-80F~ I've done both ways and noticed maybe a few days shaved off colonization time with higher temps. I just prefer the TiT cus its incognito and keeps temps steady.

Do the jars need proper ventilation of fresh air if they're all sealed in a bucket? I was thinking of plugging the bucket's tiny, air-ventilation hole with a piece of coffee filter..if They do need proper air flow(which I'm figuring they really don't, seeing the jars are resealed by the tinfoil, but I could be very wrong), I have a sterile airhose with an air pump that came with my kit.

Fresh Air (FAE) is for fruiting, when the myc needs lots of oxygen.
Gas Exchange (GE) is for colonizing. Don't put the myc in anything completely airtight, so it doesn't suffocate.

The average temperature here is about 42-60F (its not surprising for it to be less then 30) at night with maybe 60-64F in the day so I will defiantly be investing in a TiT when push comes to shove. Ive noticed a few degrees can make quite a bit of a different in terms of growth.

This and...
"IF" for some reason you require a incubator "MAKE SURE" you take a accurate reading of the room temperature itself prior to dialing in the 10-20degree difference in the incubator. If your room is sitting at 62-50f and you dial in 80F this will cause the water to go beyond optimum levels for colonization.
If you're garage is at -0 and you put one in dialed to 80F than it will steady at 80F and if its fancy they turn off and on to maintain the temperature. I ruined a lot of stuff by super-heating the substrates because it was failed to be mentioned in the tek op.

OR just keep a thermometer in the incubation chamber and regulate the temp as needed. From my experience, colonizing jars don't require MUCH fae either. Just keep the foil off. I keep mine in a tote with a sheet over it and they colonize well. Just dont put a lid on it or anything too tight if you have the need to incubate.

Colonizing jars don't require ANY FAE, they require Gas Exchange. The two are different things.

what are the differences? What exactly is gas exchange? my thermometer seems to be reading around 68-72 degrees, so it could be higher, but it's not terribly low. It does stay rather cold in my apartment, until they decide to kick on everyone's heaters for the fall/winter..

Gas Exchange is when excess gasses can be expelled out of the jar/bag/tub, while at the same time not allowing any fresh air to hit the substrate.
Fresh Air Exchange is when the air gets cycled out of the jar/bag/tub on a regular basis.

Hate to bump this thread again..on a random question.
When you place the fully-colonized jars in the terrarium to start the fruiting process, is it better to have the tin foil underneath the cakes, on top of the perlite? Or just directly on top of the perlite? And what is the purpose of the tin foil exactly?

Use foil. It keeps the mycelium from wasting energy trying to colonise the perlite.

Put som foil underneath otherwise the cakes will soak up the water out of the perlite and they get soggy

Cakes on should not reside directly on perlite as they will absorb the moisture and water log the cakes. something between the cakes and perlite prevents this.
I use a grate which sits about 1" above the perlite, and my cakes go directly on that grate.
