You could try some sawdust frum maple or alder(?). Or wood chips mixed with a bit of vermiculate. There lots on here about it. Check back about a month er less ago in the forum. I saw them experienced guys talk about it.

You need hardwood chips. Preferably you want chips that are all different sizes, sawdust will grow mycelium but it wont support mushroom growth . The best way to get chips is to use a woodchipper and just throw in small alder trees or you use an axe and chop a log into chips. I chopped all the chips I used for my cyan patch by hand, this year im renting a woodchipper

oh and animal bedding and smoker chips suck  dont use em

I'm trying to grow ps.cyan indoors, do you guys think that Hickory or Mesquite wood chips would work for ps. cyan? Its all I could find.

small note: please use sick / dead trees if youre going to woodchip a tree.. when you choose good alder trees, youre making them less useful because of natural selection.. such a waste of tree for mushrooms

If i took maple shavings frum a plane, and stuck them in the compost box, think that would do anything? Otherwise, i'm agrabbig a chainsaw and cutting down the neighbours tree.
