cant realy see any but the picture quality is low. why did you drill that bathtub in the top of your cake,i belive that preflush dunking has replaced such archiac practices.

Th hole was suggested for quicker hydration of the cake during dunking. There was no colonization in the center so I didnt see how it could hurt the cake much.
I will take a closer pix of what I think are pins.

Ack! no colonization in the center?! You're risking contams terribly by exposing uncolonized cake to the world... Better to damage mycelium than to expose uncolonized cake.
Anyhow... the bumps look like the beginnings of pins... you'll know pins when they pop up. -j

As for pins, No dude that aint a pin thats raised mycelium growth. When you see little bead like bumps that are shiny you got hyphal knots, then after that come pins.

Thanks DaNK420!
How long does it take to start showing pins?

Mine pinned in a few days. Give it time. After you harvest your first flush, do a dunk and roll. You HAVE to!! You'll be glad you did. A foaf managed to get 5 flushes out of his cakes and then threw them away b/c he didnt feel like doing it anymore. He probably could have gotten another flush or two.
Out of 4 mycobag cakes, he got well over a QP doing the dunk and roll. Biggest shroom was 4.2g dry.
You'll know pins when you see 'em.

Roll the dunked cake in dry verm. Im not sure how rolling it is supposed to help. I understand the dunk and cold shock, but not the verm roll....

maybe the verm helps remove excess water because of its water absorbtion capabilities.

The verm keeps the cake moist. In much the same way a casing layer works.

does the verm in a "roll" technique have to be sterile? my friend has plenty of verm in a bag, but it sure aint sterile. he's never had any luck sterilizing it for a casing layer, so he won't be able to do this "roll" technique unless it can be done with straight up verm. peace.

I''m not going to repete what Magash has so eloquently written out for us... Do a search on his postings and dunking and you'll find his complete description of this tek.
