Winter Plants
    #2052031 - 10/28/03 09:49 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

What are some good plants that can be planted now (Besides poppies , I have learned VERY much about them lately with ALL the threads, including that they like the cold ).

I live in the Texas gulf coast, near Houston.  Temps now in the 50's at night, high 70's to 80's during the day.  The coldest it usually gets is 40's at night and high 50's, 60's during day (Very few of these days) and brief spells that may just freeze at night then 40-50 during day.

I am looking for plants that I could have right now (That I would buy already potted) or could plant now (More cost effective).

I already have San Pedro, but that is all, and I am looking to expand my garden.  These have to be plants that can be kept in pots for now, but will be transplanted to ground if need be within 1 year.

But please don't limit suggestions to plants that would work in my area.  I'm sure there are some that are also considering starting gardens elsewhere that could use the info as well.

Tobacco Tree would work, but I doubt you'd be able to find a potted one for sale.

mary j can grow in your winter climate i'm sure, as long as it doesn't frost. especially if you started right now indoors and set the plant outside after about a month of HID light for it to flower.

anyone know how to germinate poppy seeds?...i hate to be a thread jacker of sorts but we are talking about winter plants...sorry

usually plants grow so slow in winter! i know of little plants that have their active growth phase during winter and no entheogenic one with this charachteristic.
spring is usually THE time for planting but like you said, you can still plant poppies...
autumn is the best season for native fungi where i live...
