Hypal Knots forming too soon!!! for real this time!!! pics
    #2053435 - 10/29/03 01:22 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

ok two days ago i spawned some straw/rabbit poo with 1 pint of EQ on popcorn. I covered with foil put a few holes in it and began to incubate it. I checked on it today for growth and contams. (b/c im impatient)

good news is i have growth and no sign on contaminates... but when looking closely i can see underdneath the uncolonized straw/r.poo
and it looks as tho the mycelium is forming hypal knots.

i am kinda confused as to what i should do with this? i dont want to put it in the fruiting chamber b/c its not colonized. anyone have this happen to them? did i make a mistake by putting the holes in the foil?

If they are really hyphal knots you probably exposed it to too much light too soon, or it's just a weird strain, or you didn't have a good change in environmental conditions between your incubating and fruiting periods.

It shouldn't be too much of a problem, though, as long as it's somewhat even.

You might just be seeing mycelium colonize the casing, though.

A bulk casing my clone had formed hyphal knots right as it was finishing up colonizing. He birthed it with no casing layers and it's on second flush right now.

my mycelium eat up the casing layer and formed the frikkin knots , but each of those little knots is a shroom right?

maybe its not a knot and just a rhizomorphic growth... i am just concerned b/c it is only the second day since i mixed everything together.
In a day or two is should be ready to go in the fruiting chamber anyways so i guess ill just let it incubate till then... it just seems too soon for it to be knotting already

My friends mycobag just started to form hyphal knots. All conditions are almost exactly what micro described, but all is well. Took a lot longer to colonize but with casing methods things look bright.

Rhizo growth is them ycelium that is real stringy likea nd stretches to uncolonized substrate.

so today i checked on this thing of rabbit poo and straw. and to my suprise there are hypal knots everywhere.

what should i do... i can still see the some parts of the straw.

should i pull out the uncolonized parts and stick it in the chamber or just stick it in the chamber as it is... maybe with saran wrap over the top... so it gets light but cant contaminate anything else in the chamber???

any suggestions will be greatly apreciated.

if you have pins forming and still have areas of uncolonized substrate means several things. First spawning was uneven. Second spawn / substrate ratio was inadequate. I would separate out uncolonized substrate this time around and throw the rest in the fruiting chamber. Next go around increase your spawn to substrate ratio and ensure you have evenly distributed the spawn.

I already know why this is happening.. Its rainy, cooler out and the temps inside my house have dropped to fruiting temps. I think that has more to do with my situation than uneven spawn.

let me clarify. It is colonizing evenly in the spots that are fully colonized. its just that there were some pieces of straw sticking up that werent completely colonized.

so fruiting this will be fine once i remove the uncolonized straw... i mean it is only a few pieces of straw that havent been colonized.

I didnt intend on casing it - and now i guess i couldnt if i wanted to b/c of the knots... or will they continue to grow through a thin casing layer

let me also state that you really need to have a uniform density which means literally packing your straw substrate to ensure that there are no voids or air pockets. I would say if you are using bags to pack the straw in there tighter next time.

no not using bags... i have a pic of it i am just waiting for my upload limit to be refreshed.

what i would really like to know is what the best thing to do is... fruit it or continue to incubate?

here is a picture of one corner of the tray. The top right is the most colonized of the whole thing... maybe a little overlayed?

the rest of the photo is what the rest of the tray looks... I may have forgotten to mention that it was cased with a thin layer of Coir/verm at the time of spawning the straw and poo.
