read the rules dude, edit the sponsor name out of your post.

could be some bacteria, let it go a few more days, make a line with a marker to see how it grows over the next few days, if it stalls out in any area and doesn't move it's bacteria and you'll have to toss it

Fuck :-(.  It looked like it was doing we'll? Zero experience doesn't help with what I THINK is lookin good I guess.... Should I separate it from my other jars? They have a gas exchange filter on top

Always separate jars that you think are contamed. You know it's contamed now, I would just chuck it if it were me.

like they said, its some kind of bacteria if it stalls like that.
you can reuse the jar.

what is the filter u are using for ur lid?
looks like one of those LC looking filters?  i forget what they are called.  it might not be getting enough GE, sometimes those things are very restrictive.

And just to clarify it hasn't stalled?? It's started like my second jar just a blob like a week 1/2 ago and it's growing fast but I was concerned about it being ready to fruit before it fully colonized. I had no idea that was contamination because it was white?... Il prob sepperate those 2 jars outside and see what they do before I toss the cake... I don't have any spores left to nok up fresh cakes :undecided:

The filter came on my jar, cannot clarify where it came from but it's a standard gas exchange filter that without a doubt is proven to be sufficient for it's use. There is also a self healing inoc point that seemed helpful but difficult to disperse evenly.  I'm tried to make this idiot proof and sterilize EVERYTHING!!! I clearly remember not flame sterilizing my needle on these first 2 jars. That may be where this came from.  I have 2 more that I did last week and I DID flame that syringe but the plunger got stuck, came loose and dumped 5-6 cc in one jar so we'll see how that turns out...

Ok so after some thought my question, is it bacteria that's stopping the myc from growing or is the white stuff bacteria itself?

Is there anyone who can explain a bit more of what happened? The simple fact it was contaminated doesn't help me learn anything from it? Just toss it out doesn't teach me anything either... I turned to the forum because I don't know anyone personally eho studies mycology. Should I even try to reuse these tall 1/2 pints? I found a case of the short fattys that are recommended but I assumed the self healing noc point and filter would make it fool proof for me... I remember bending my needle trying to evenly disperse with only one hole that isn't even dead center it's offset so it's extremely difficult to get the back of the jar!

you don't need to evenly disperse, I've only ever used tall half pints and never had a problem other people have only had problems, I suspect it's somewhat skill based too. You'll learn when you see good jars practice = learning.

Ok so I cut the cake in half and put it into a 2 liter shotgun style... 2" of perlite on the bottom fan and mist 4 times a day. Today I decided to pick the cake up and clean some verm that got in my perlite and this is what the bottom of the cake looks like? Is it gonna continue to colonize and possibly pin?

It's possible. It may also just start growing contamination on the uncolonized substrate, which is likely.

This is the bottom of the cake and it's on tin foil. It was completely bare about 3 days ago and has grown that much? I'm noob deluxe and just trying to salvage this lil fucker as a learning experiment. I would like to get at least one cap so I can pull a print off of it, get a case of the short 1/2 pint jars and start all over!

I did this as an experiment... To see what it would do! I understand it wasn't what's recommended but a lot of great research came that way. As I previously stated I ordered these jars and they came with a filter. IMPORTANT UPDATE: As I previously stated I pre ordered these jars and they came with a filter. I assumed these would work we'll and they had been tested to ensure proper air exchange... I feel as tho they don't do the job. Part of another experiment consisted with me cleaning sterilizing and removing that filter and replacing with some med grade micro spore tape. I did it to the 2 jars I (accidentally) hit with about 5cc each. They showed zero signs of colonization last night, and today one is getting white stuff! Would FAE stop a jar from colonizing? It seems my half cut cake started to try and re colonize the sub pretty we'll after being introduced to the fresh air? Any thoughts pls

We'll after working all day and some thought, I'm still fk'n excited!! It's my first cap bro!! I've got 2 other jars about %60 and I have a proper SGFC already built. Il do those cakes to a T But I honestly haven't seen ANYWERE someone salvaged half of a cake and got it to pin?? Can u refer me to a thread cuz I'm pretty sure I've used the search eng and I didn't find anything. I also am seeing what looks to be another pin so it could have more than one but we'll see?  I'm also using a shot gun 2 liter bottle on this half a cake has anyone ever done that? I drilled holes in the bottom and just above my perlite line and on the top cut lid area... I fan and mist it about 5 times a day and it worked.... It freakin worked :-)))

Nobody probably reading this thread anymore but it's pretty interesting I should probably start a new thread! I can now count 3 caps that are looking amazing and 3 pin heads on a lil cluster on the side!

you really should learn to master the search engine, its so easy and rewarding!

PS; check out the comments under the pics as well, no one recommends doing it.

cubes will grow almost no matter what so its not about getting shrooms
its about getting the most of your cakes.
this guy threw his cakes in the trash can and they fruited better than what yours sounds to do

practice using the SE by finding user "fahtster"'s results with pf cakes
to see what you're missing out on and why we're trying to turn you off from cutting cakes.

try to use other words in search as well, I only searched cutting cakes,
brits might say splitting cakes, slicing cakes, breaking subs ++++

Long story short; learn to master the search engine!
