Need ID on these thick monsters
    #2053020 - 10/29/03 07:54 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

iight ...please bare with me the digital cam aint to great and i just piked these beauties like 30 min ago...my first successfull trip...atleast i hope so...i found all of these on amixture of horse shit and mulch mixed together it was a trail on da outside of horse stables...well these first pics were these thick shrooms...that were all stuck together...im a try to give as much details as possible:

the stem is bruising blue/green already after 20 min after picking them...some parts of the stem are peeling...the cap is slimmy.the color of the cap..is a light brown/copper which fades whiter as it gets to down..underneath the cap is white..but dont know how to describe the gills...white and they dont look like gills rather smooth underside..there were about 9 of these shrooms growing together..i had to break them to be seperated..please let me know if there are any poisonus look -a-likes for this shroom..

these second set of shrooms i found scattered yet close to each other...found 3 of these they each look da same also found growin in da same habitat..well the stems are long and lank..but the bigger one stem thickens yet so does the cap...the stem is hollow and no obviouse bruising...center of the cap is a darker brown then the rest of the cap and not slimmy.there still wet from washing but not slimmy at all..gills are a dark brown..no change of color...stem is connected directly under the center of the cap..please let me know if there are also any poisinus look-a-likes for this shroom also..please
sorry for the limited details...and no spore print..please just do the best u can...

1st group: P. cubensis [be sure of the blueing]. they could possibly be a stropharia aswell.

in a little bit, check on the cutting sites again to see if it is darker. take another picture of it in good lighting.

2nd group: not sure but they look rather like conocybes. chuck them.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Yeah, those do look like Ps. cubensis in the first two pictures. They look pretty immature, but, very clean! I think I see some bruising on one of them, so I think your safe.

As stated before the second ones are not of much use.

i had been talking to him on the irc and he seemed not to be especialy sure of the bruising [wich i can somewhat see on all of them at the cutting sites], so i thought i'd add that part.

i'm pretty sure they are cubensis, but he wanted me to be extra sure because he does not know much about mushrooms.

the bottom of the caps on the first set are smooth because the veils havent broken yet, so you cant see the gills yet.

Here, I edited your picture. I circled the ones I'm 75% sure are Cubensis. The ones with question marks, I'm not confident in identification. And those not marked I'm very confident are cubensis. Nice finds, very nice.

as near as i can tell every one of those is P. cubensis. please verify a blue bruising reaction in each, as this will make it definate.

in the future, please saparate each individual collection. do not ask for an ID on a large jumble of mushrooms, as this is how misidentified specimens get overlooked, and sometimes consumed.

those are P. cubensis, including the two circled.

you should abstain from consuming those wich are beginning to rot, as some of those appear to be doing from the gills. this could lead to food poisoning wich would not be pleasant while within the grip of these mushrooms.

take care bro; and great luck with your hunting, you're catching on fast.
