Hushmail is ok (if you keep logging in every 21 days to keep the free account active).
The better path is to learn/use PGP, and with your own PGP keys you can do a lot more. You can then use any email like hushmail and including the shroomery PM'age too. You can also encrypt entire zipped folders with jpegs (or whatever you want) and upload to cyber drives to share with fellow PGP'ists online. Hushmail only has a 2mb storage, but you can get yahoo briefcases of 30mb for free.
Ideal, for example, if you were engaged in a Cannabis breeding program where the internet participants of the breeding group all took on various tasks and exchanged seeds to effect tiers of the breeding work, but at the same time needed visual and text data on where the project is at, thus all stay tidy in the global loop. That requires stealth. Not far fetched, it is happening. I know of people doing it.
You can also lock down data on your own PC from snoops, vital for laptop folks. A lost laptop with sensitive data could be a disaster.

But you haven't got my IP addy and yet I have used PGP (your reply you posted ^above I encrypted below). Had I your public PGP key, you'd be able to decrypt it, as I'd have encrypted it in your public key.

I could just as easily do this in the shroomery PM'age with any participating PGP'ist.
If I wanted to do files, I'd PGP encrypt them in recipient/s key/s and upload to a free yahoo cyber drive to share the drive with given recipient/s. 30mb slays 2mb at hushmail.
Now I wouldn't suggest one use their ISP email, unless it were say family and legit business. I do FYI, use my ISP email with PGP for legit needs, so IP is not an issue.
In fact, I digitally sign my emails so it's a known who I am. Not that I suggest anyone to use digitally signed PGP'ed emails/PM'age, if the nature of subject is potentially illicit i.e. trading buds/prints/seeds ect (depending on respective nation/state laws). However, admins/mods could to verify that they are the real item. Not far fetched, I've seen admins from Overgrow post their digital signature to do just that, esp. if posting at other sites where trolls claim they're imposters. Culls dope board politics in a flash.
As for newbies, well that FAQ at Overgrow (link I posted in my ^above post) is a cinch to follow, any newbie will be 10 minutes from now PGP capable, and considering the often 'down time for maintenance' inconvenience of hushmail, PGP is better as it's ready to go anytime with the many more advantages it gives. Just keep your keys backed up on a floppy or use hushmail to manage your keys. Yes, you can even merge PGP to hushmail too!! http://www.hushtools.com Which also allows you to copy/paste a digital signature as per your hushmail identity to a shroomery post, i.e. in the market forum so people KNOW IT IS YOU, i.e. if nay sayers troll. But you can do that with standard PGP too (at risk of repeating).
I have btw, been a hushmail user for 3 years now. I only use it because so many are too slack to learn/use PGP.
Below is my shroomery specific public PGP key. Want to try this out? Post your public key.
