I personally like Mckenna but some say Leary "went farther".

I say Mckenna = Leary.

Leary, got interested in Cryonic suspension toward the end of his "career", now thats what i call having missed the fucking point and or lost the plot....I am forever grateful for the influence of Terrance Mckenna in my miserable existence....over&out.

I found Leary to be not NEARLY as stimulating as Mckenna, although Leary usually did seem somewhat more "sane" in general to me than Mckenna.... but lol we're talking about "psychedelic enthusiasts" so ha we're all whacked according to society's standards

Mckenna, although I'm not sure if he could tell the difference between "true hallucinations" and false ideas at times, was one of the most entertaining and thought-provoking speakers ever.

And on top of that, minus the timewave, I think Novelty Theory is one of the most brilliant basic ideas ever concieved, even if it doesn't do much for predicting things or whatever, I just love the obvious idea that nature constantly becomes more complex/novel.

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

McKenna was an amazing catalyst of human consciousness.
He is serving well on the other side.

i think leary was incredible in his own way. but i definitely feel closer to what mckenna says. leary just seemed to radical for me to accept those changes... anywho. ken wilber rocks, although id unno if you'd consider him up there with leary and mckenna. i dunno if his ideas are drug-inspired

They were both great men with their strengths and weaknesses. I like Leary's religious views, and McKenna's historical theories.

My vote goes to McKenna for the most entertaining trip reports.

I'd have to go with McKenna too, they both did quite a bit, but McKenna wins by default because Leary sold out his accomplice to lessen his sentance. Plus McKenna did more to popularize mind expansion, while Leary was more of a conceptualist.

I had the fortunate opportunity to see Leary and McKenna share a podium once (on video). The comparisons between the two were hysterical to observe: it was clear which substance either had been impacted by, and chosen to be a spokesperson for. Leary was waving his arms around and speaking brightly, where as McKenna was subdued, hypnotic and Holy.

Had I'd never heard of either of the two before, I'd have been easily able to say "that one does a lot of mushrooms", and "that one does a lot of acid." The way in which the two drugs impacted and directed their lives was fascinating.

 terrence mckennas writings!

the only thing i don't like about leary is him saying the whole point of a psychedelic experience is ecstacy... i think its more of a learning and self-reflection experience than just getting off using drugs.

Yup, Watts was quite the guy, I recently got a book
of his called "Zen The Supreme Experience"
Too bad he was an alcoholic :frown:
I realize that, ideally, that fact shouldn't detract from what
he had to say, but, in reality, I find it hard to
seperate the messenger from the message...
I mean if the message is so compelling the messenger
should be the first to embody it...
