Because they'll never again be able to hear how wonderful and powerful music can truly be.
Plus all the other reasons too, but I think I would seriously consider suicide if I became deaf because music is that important.

The wife of Vinton Cerf, the true inventor of the internet (he invented IP which is Internet Protocol... sorry Mr. Gore), is deaf. About ten years ago she got implants that let her hear for the first time. Watching her listen to music for the first time was one of the more magical moments I have ever seen.

I would rather be deaf than blind, if there was a choice in the matter.

Not me I would rather be blind then deaf. Music is such a big part in my life. I seriously listen and play instruments when ever I can.

Yes, but not everyone is a musical genius. Plus I remember hearing that he had to keep his ear to the floor in order to feel the vibrations.

Beethoven went deaf halfway through his career. Most of his well known stuff was written while he was completely deaf.. including the 9th symphony..
He composed the symphonies in his mind before writing them down on paper. He didn't "hear" a note of them.

Yes, I would rather be deaf than blind. I love music and it has always been a positive element in my life, but being cursed to never see the sunset over the Grand Canyon or the view from atop Chichen Itza or my kittens or a forgiving smile again would be a major loss. The loss of music would be a blow, but for me, not as much as visual ability. Plus, from a practical perspective, being blind would be incredibly debilitating, while being deaf (while having its own set of difficulties) would be much easier to live with. But thats just me

True that.. plus you could never post on the Shroomery again
Sheepish who posts here, is partially deaf. He has to wear a hearing aid, but he still enjoys his metal

Interesting discussion. I am a teacher of the blind and have thought about this often. With deafness- there is the cochlear implant and some way to get useful hearing for many deaf people. It will be a long time before the same can be said for blindness. There may be some ways to stimulate visual responses, but it will be a really long time before there is eye transplants or anything that will let most blind people see. Having said that, I think it would be one thing to lose your vision or hearing and quite another to never have had it. Given a choice at this point I would rather lose my hearing. At least then travel and complete independence would be an option. But then again, I can read braille already....

It says "manufactured of the... and it says "information". it is really hard to see the braille, but that is what I could make out.

I'd have to take sight over hearing any day of the week. There's so much beautiful shit out in the world...
But maybe, if the blind really DO get visuals from acid, I'd reconsider. There's alot of beautiful shit in LSD, too.
