i wouldn't say these guys are similar to anyone, but if you like electronic music i highly suggest looking into MATMOS's catalog. it's a gay couple and one of them is a humanities professor. needless to say it's really brainy music. they take concept albums to another level. these two are my favorites by them.

honorable mention for this one too. a real headphone mindfuck. parts of it are just downright creepy.

I must write this: Ok... Listened to this and that but that Shpongle motherfucker has head and tail in every song and album. It's story telling like every classical shit and ppl will talk about Shpongle 100 years after I've written this....

I've said things along this line to people before. People can go on all day about how they don't like them, but at the end of the day they make some really great music that will be with us for many decades after they stop producing music.

Shpongle is one of the greatest acts of all time. I've seen Simon like 10 times in various forms and Shpongle always blows me away every single time. The greatest show I have ever seen in my life was a DJ set with the Shpongletron 2.0 on 2 hits of LSD. He is a musical mastermind, the master of ceremonies.. modern day Beethoven.

Argaman is the only artist I have found that sounds really similar to Shpongle, without being Shpongle, or a rip off or one of Simon's side projects.

Ott is also one of my favorites.

Check out Simons other project Younger Brother. Whatever album has "happy pills" is one of my favorite of all time. Not much like shpongle, but every but as creative and psychedelic imo.

Check these out,
I've been listening to Carbon Based Lifeforms for neary 2 years since I disovered them and their music still blows my mind - beautiful, vast, alien soundscapes.

Carbon Based Lifeforms - Hydroponic Garden

Desert Dwellers - Luminous Axiom

01-N - Chilloutism

Etheogenic
Solar Fields
H.U.V.A network

And pretty much anyone signed up to this record company
http://ultimae.com/

Just check out their website, pretty sure you'll stumble onto someone that you like.
