Contamination Question
    #2049481 - 10/28/03 02:49 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I'm growing some 'Golden Teachers' and I put the colonized cakes (Brown Rice Substrate) in my fruiting chamber and everything was going great. Two weeks went by and a couple shrooms started to grow nicely. I hadn't checked on them in a few days and now there is a fine white fuzz all over the cakes and on the grown mushrooms. I have them in a rubbermaid container. Should it be sealed or have some ventilation? I'm not sure if it really is cobweb mold or not. Wouldn't the mold have shown up before this? I've been reading all I can on contamination and it seems like it's just extra mycelium growing everywhere. However, some teks say the humidity might be a little high while other sources say the humidity might be low. Could anybody clear this up? I'll try to post pictures soon.

first of all WRONG FORUM.

the white fuffyness is due to oxygen creating fluffy mycelium. cob web is grey and is whispy like hairs.

hum. that's a tricky one without a picture.

if it's mycelium, that'll be because it's too humid. you definitely want to have lots of air exchange, so leaving it alone for a few days with the lid on is a bad idea at this crucial stage.

if it's cobweb, and it's grown over everything, that would be a terrible shame. get them pics up!
