home-made BRF
    #2048766 - 10/27/03 09:16 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

I made up some BRF about a week ago in my blender, and then sifted it a couple of times to get out the big stuff. but when it was PC'd and ready it didn't exactly look like flour anymore... lots of little round granules instead of a nice, consistant coating on the verm. it seems to me that this might be an issue. also, I have heard mentions of fungicide usage... on non-organics.. has anyone heard of this being an issue with bob's red mill products? I know that some people out there like their grains a lot. (and i did check the ingridients.)

Sounds like you may have overcooked it a bit. Should still be fine to use, just might take longer to colonize.

Nah Don't sweat it. Sometimes the BRF clumps a bit, depends on the aount of water it comes in contact with. GL

no... don't think so. it looked basically the same but a little bit lighter colored. when it was raw. i guess the water hit it and it just had its way. =)

its _possible_ that it was over cooked, because i realized that my mammoth pressure cooker wasent staying hot enough on a medium heat to boil water on its surface... so the first 20 minutes werent hot enough... so I tacked on another 10-15 to the time once it got up to temp again. but it all seems to have worked fine, as I have growth now!

it came in some time between 66 and 72 hours. it might have been there slightly before that, but my untrained eye didn't catch it. anyway, at 72 hours, about 85% of the injection sites had growth showing, with only one jar of 12 not showing any conclusive growth from any spot. it's probibly doing fine by now.. just a little bit behind it's buddies I guess! =)

dont worry, i made my own BRF too and i didnt even sift out the bigger chunks, i just used it all, and after i cooked it some of it seemed to swell, change to a lighter color, etc.

from those 10 jars, may i add my first, i have gotten about 2 oz. of dry shrooms. the growth after 72 hours is exactly how mine went, and i had great luck, so dont worry
